13 wins in the last 4 days impressive

I attempt to update every wrestler's record at the update. Bean's record was better than the 1/26 release. I saw the same thing and went back through his season. It looks correct.

Lawrence has it over Newton and Andale has it over Lawrence. The addition of out of state teams at Garden City and Newton, change the dynamics. It has a lot to do who they met in the semis. Aside from Ark City, the next five teams are very close!

The rankings are great and I enjoy keeping up on the individuals and teams. When it comes to the State Tournament, the rankings go out the window and everyone starts with a clean slate for those two days. Andale is a great program, but if I was a Newton fan right now, I would be a little more concerned about how we match up against Ark City, not to mention STA and Andover Central.

By the way, I have seen plenty of Newton at two tough tournaments this year, and they are very good from top to bottom. The point of my previous post was, don't be too concerned about a team you won't see at State. I could be wrong, but I don't think team awards are passed out at the end of the year for the All Class Rankings.

Ya Hartman Arena will be a fun place to be the last weekend in febuary. The focus is definitely back to 5a and getting through a tough regional.

With 14 total teams, seven of them contending teams, these type of tournaments are much closer to dual results than state tournaments. That is NOT a slight to Newton. They have got it going this year. They don't need any pandering comments.

Great point about the dynamics of a tournament changing because of the teams that are in it. Same goes for individual brackets. You have to realize that a wrestler may come into a tournament dinged up or comes down with an illness the day of a tournament but still chooses to wrestle. Same for a wrestler that just has an off day, but I would say that injury and illness play a bigger part in the outcome of some matches.

I personally disagree with Andale being ranked ahead of Newton, but I can also see Chief's reasoning. Here is a breakdown of how the GC tourney went for Andale and Newton:

Newton:
106 Open
113 2 losses both to out of state kids
120 2 losses neither of which were to out of state kids
126 2 losses neither of which were to out of state kids
132 2 losses, neither of which were to out of state kids
138 2 losses, neither of which were to out of state kids
145 0 losses, Johns champ
152 2 losses, one on the backside to out of state kid
160 2 losses, one on the backside to out of state kid
170 2 losses one on the backside to out of state kid
182- 2 losses, one on the backside to out of state kid
195 0 losses, Archer champ
220 2 losses, one on the backside to out of state kid
285 2 losses, one on the backside to out of state kid
Total losses-22
Losses to out of state kids-8

Andale:
106-2 losses, both to out of state
113-1 loss to out of state kid
120-open
126 2 losses, neither to out of state kids
132 2 losses, one on front side to out of state kid
138-2 losses, both to out of state kids
145-open
152 1 loss to in state kid
160 0 losses, Duhr champ
170 0 losses, champ
182 open
195 open
220 open
285 2 losses, none to out of state kids
Total losses-12
Losses to out of state kids-6

What does this show? Probably nothing other than we have too many open weights to ever do well at a dual, but we have 4 kids capable of making the finals at most tourneys. And 3 more kids capable of scoring team points deep into most tourneys.

Newton probably has fewer finalist possibilities, but 5-6 kids capable of scoring team points deep into most tourneys.

Bottom line is that I can see why Chief is struggling with these team rankings from 2-6. And I wish he would just put Newton ahead of us so we don't have to hear people complaining that Newton should be ahead of Andale every Sunday morning........

Reality is that these rankings don't make a rat's a$$, and all of us need to concentrate on our own class's regional and state competition. Cause those are the only ones that give out team trophies that really mean anything. wink

Lee and Doug said it....time to concentrate on winning matches, not rankings.

like my old football coach used to tell us "Rankings are based on what happened in the past. Can you see the forrest for the trees?"

Just curious with the 120 weight class how Arnold is still all class ranked? ? Spader beat him at Hays and Miller, BUH, beat Spader at Hays..

Not sure you can say Spader defeated Arnold in Hays, as Kevin injury defaulted out. And his other loses were to Prescott MCPH #3 all class, and Ball Hois. #9 all call, both above Arnold in the All class rankings. Spader lost to Dulgarian STA #1 all class, and Miller Buh. not ranked all class, and Arnold beat miller, this may be why Arnold is still above Spader due to the loss to Miller not being ranked, and Arnold defeating Miller.
