JUST WANTING TO KNOW HOW TO GET MY 4 YEAR OLD SOME WRESTLING TIME THIS SEASON JUST TO GET HIM INTERESTED AND NOT PAY A BUNCH OF MONEY DOING IT. DO I HAVE TO REGISTER HIM AND GET HIM ON A CLUB TEAM OR CAN I JUST SIGN HIM UP FOR TOURNAMENTS AND PAY FOR THEM AT THE SITES. IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME OR LET ME KNOW WHO I CAN TALK TO ABOUT IT. THANKS.

At 4 you are going to have a hard time getting him to understand the sport. Try taking him to a couple of the High School matches here in town to see if he enjoys watching it. Then work with him at home on little things like his stances. Just my 2 cents.

I dont think a 4 year old is going to be interested in a high school match. I have a 12 year old who loves to wrestle but cant stand watching it. most clubs will let kids come to 2 or 3 practices befor u have to pay, just to see if they like it or not.

you can shine a turd for hours but in the end all you have is a pice of crap.

I don't know how it is at Chanute, but just find out how many kids aroudn that age wrestle for the local club. I got my little cousin in wrestling when he was for. Unlike what Coach Craig thinks kids can stay very interested. Just don't get to technical with them. It will start out like back yard wrestling, but the more matchs they wrestle the more they will understand. Most trnys have 6 and under or 8 and under. My cousin usually wrestled the 6yr olds but still had fun and did very well. Good luck. It is probably a little late to get him in to a club.

WELL HE ALREADY UNDERSTANDS WRESTLING BECAUSE WE HAVE WATCHED A COUPLE OF KIDS TOURNAMENTS. HE WANTS TO TRY IT BUT I REALLY DONT HAVE TIME TO RUN HIM TO PRACTICES FOR A CLUB TEAM. I WAS HOPING I COULD SIGN HIM UP AND HE WRESTLE FOR HIMSELF INSTEAD OF A CLUB. I AM CURRENTLY TEACHING HIM WHAT HE NEEDS TO KNOW AT THIS AGE. I JUST HAVENT BEEN AROUND WRESTLING SINCE I LIVED IN CHANUTE AND KNOW THAT IT HAS CHANGED A LITTLE. SEE BACK WHEN I WRESTLED I JUST SIGNED UP FOR THE TOURNAMENT AND PAID MY 5 OR 10 BUCKS THEN WRESTLED. I KNOW THATS NOT HOW IT IS THESE DAYS SO I WAS JUST WONDERING IF I COULD DO IT ON MY OWN OR DOES HE HAVE TO BE A STATE REGISTERED WRESTLER AND THEN WILL I HAVE TO REGISTER MYSELF AND PAY ALL THAT MONEY FOR JUST A COUPLE OF TOURNAMENTS THIS YEAR. HE WILL START WITH THE CLUB NEXT YEAR ANYWAYS. JUST WANT TO GET HIM SOME MAT TIME BEFORE THEN.

Would he not have to have a USA card that includes insurance for the possibility of injury?

He needs a USA Wrestling Card Number (and you have to pay for that) for insurance purposes and/or before you sign up for tournaments. Also, 4 years old is a little early. The attention span during practice with 4 year olds is very short (maybe 30 minutes to 45 minutes) and they tend to want to blow the coaches whistle during practice or play games often. That is very normal. The kids of that age in the room are ussually siblings and kind of roll around with the older kids during water or bathroom breaks. We require our 5 and 6 year old parents to hang around in case their child is being over disruptive to the practice room or they may be put in time out by the coach.

my son wrestled when he was 4 and he did very well he almost went to state last year Not all 4 yr old have the attention span to handle wrestling and some kids do. Parents know their kids best and should use their best judgement.

I think to answer you question is that you would have to pay the USA for the card and then for tournaments in advance. You could probably do it on your own without a club but still need to pay for the USA card- ask Grater's
