SM Northwest finishes fifth at district
The Cougars wrestling team came up short at the district duals meet Friday at Shawnee Mission North High School.
SM Northwest dropped all four of its meets. The district champion, SM South, finished 4-0 and one spot ahead of SM East (3-1). Hosts SM North finished just above SM Northwest with a 1-3 record.
Against SM East in a 45-24 loss, SM Northwest's Matt Vanausdall defeated Grant Hollingsworth in a 1-0 decision at 119 pounds. At 125 pounds, Ross Whitmore gave the Cougars another victory when he pinned Tommy McGillicuddy. The team's only other victory — aside from a 103-pound forfeit — would come at 189 pounds when Blake Covington defeated David Hill by a 5-0 decision.
