An open in a dual has always counted as a win.

Garkerholic4-
Fatbat is right. With 321a schools wrestling a bunch of duals, it's highly likely they will receive at least a couple freebies over the course of the season, especially if they're SkinnyBennies (103) or FatPats (215/275).

ToachCwink-
Of course your statements will be challenged. You make some okay points, but naturally they will be blown out of the water at a later date. Right now, I have to study up on Latin.

And let's face it: you're never going to convince me (because you're wrong), and I'm never going to convince you (because they raised you stubborn in Western Kansas).

I'm not "that" old and I NEVER received a win for an open or a bye, dual or tournament. In a dual I would receive *team points* for a win, and in a tourney IF I won the following match I would recieve *team points* for a win... but never did I get a win on my record for either. Same as w/ a default so long as the opening whistle had never been blown.

Things may have changed, but it was not that way in the early 90's in 321A, and as far as I'm aware it's still not.

A. Oncewas:
It is standard to count opens in a dual as a win. This negates people who would choose to forfeit to a stud instead of wrestling him. Byes in a tourney have never counted as a win. Your coach may have chosen not to count the open in the duals as a win towards your record.

Prant:
Go study your Latin, that way you can talk to, well lets see- nobody!

I never intended to convince you, just refute the misconcieved notion that "Bigger schools are better because there are more people in them" arguement. It's all about the program whether it be big or small.

Why don't we look at the All-Americans from each class? They could tell something.

Also I hope you are all going to be at the Senior classic when this debate will have a good chance of being solved. Thursday March 24th in Topeka. 6A, 5A vs. 4A, 321A. The small schools vs. the big schools at least at the senior level. Any ideas who will be making the teams at what weight. I say Taplin for small and Cisper, Sondreggor for big schools. Baker boys ?

Has it always been this way?

I was just thinking, and I'm not sure if I EVER received an open in a dual. I wrestled from 135-145 all four years though, but you would think SOMEWHERE along the way I would have out west.

I did receive ALOT of tournament byes though, and I KNOW they didn't count.

****! I had to work for all my W's.

You can't look only at all-americans. That doesn't tell you anything except that there are some good individuals. I think the argument is about the class as a whole, but I may be mistaken. I am too lazy to read all of these posts.
