That's pretty rough. I actually saw that on the BTN live and got a few good laughs from it with my 13 yr old daughter! Even she knew they didn't know anything and all she ever has done is watch her brothers wrestle. But if we want to make an excuse, that was a student broadcast. BTN will do quite a few of those with different sports.

Who's never heard of the "turnaround?"

There are so many classic lines but my favorite was "looks like his coach wants a call for a fist in the back". Ah, I think his coach is looking for a stall call.

This video reminded me of a situation from years ago. . .

A co-worker decided to become a wrestling official; he had never wrestled and as far as I know had not attended more than a handful of junior high wrestling matches. He determined that it looked like an easy way to make a few extra bucks. So, he takes the test and gets hired to work a HS JV dual (thank goodness he is hired to work the dual with an experienced official). It was in a neighboring town, 35 miles away, but it was one of those things I had to go see, kind of like watching a train wreck. . .I could not help myself.

He worked one match that night. Fortunately, neither wrestler suffered greatly (physically or competitively) as the match ended in a tie, which was possible in those days. . .even though there was at least five misapplication of rules in each period, and some calls that rivaled the "fist in the back" and "turnaround" calls in the video.

That was the only match he worked that night, and in his wrestling ref "career." The experienced official took the whistle away from my co-worker after that first match who then functioned as the mat "assistant" for the rest of the evening. I honestly believe had the co-worker worked a second match a police escort would have been necessary to get him safely out of the gym.

I will now make all of my wrestlers hustle back to center place for the square off when action takes us out of bounds.

There is no way these guys are being serious, its a shame how little people know of one of the oldest sports in human history.
