So are the seeds set that are on trackwrestling because all the top wrestlers are wrestling against each other in the 2nd round.

not sure if the seeds are "set" but I'm not sure where you are getting they will wrestle in the 2nd round as no brackets are created. I'd imagine once the brackets are done it will work out.

You will notice that you cannot open the brackets. You can however look at how many are in each weight class (but you will notice that it says that the brackets are not built) and you can go into the weight class and see who is there, what they weighed in at and what their wrestling level is...but again - no brackets. They cannot build brackets until all wrestlers are weighed in.
When my son wrestled at 6 and under State he was in a 64 man bracket. Whoever is in the class will be on the bracket. Good luck to all!

I am not sure how the seeds were done, but in the 64lb class, I went through alot of the wrestlers and just trying to figure out how most of all the top wrestlers were in the bottom half of the bracket, and lower rank/first year ended up in the top half of the bracket. My son won his first round match, didn't place but the boy he beat ended up placing. Know it involves how the bracket falls, but if seeding was done right, that should not have happened.

The brackets can be built before weigh-ins. If someone does not make weight, they are scratched. The only reason the brackets could not be built is if there are additions or changes being made. If there are no changes allowed after cut off, the brackets can be built/seeded.

6U is very difficult if not impossible to seed. Most of the kids stay within a 50 mile range of where they live. So it is hard to tell how they stack up against the rest of the State. Alot of 6U wrestle quite a bit of novice so it is hard to tell how good they really are. Throw in the fact that they are 6 and can not or will not perform the same from one match to the next makes it harder still. Finally, most are coached to just throw headlocks, cow-catchers, and snakes, it is anybody's match when these kind of junk moves are taught to 6U. The winner is who ever fell on top. Blind Draw is the best way to go at 6U State.

Seeding are always more difficult for 6U, and even tougher because all clubs either don't pay attention to their ranking of wrestlers or change rankings based on the tournament. I like the blind draw method for 6U state, just wrestle the kid in front of you.

it might be impossible to seed the bigger brackets but just a thought would be to try and find the best 4 kids and seed those kids. i dont mind either way as im not too concearned about how many kids state championships my kids win. i move my boys around to wrestle different kids. i do not hide or run from any kid just so i can give my son a chance to win a kids state championship. they will wrestle the weight they are at in the end of the season no matter who is there.

Scott, I like the top 4 as you mentioned. Just did not see this at the state. I checked all the kids but there were about 6-7 changes made to the 64Lb bracket from weigh ins the night before to the time they posted the brackets.
Is DB your son? I watched him wrestle and he is very good. Congrats to him.
I do the same with my son, we have been to Hays, Hutch, Hillsboro, etc...and put him up against any kid also, win or lose.

Mark, that is true. But this was not a 64 man bracket. 16 man with 3 byes in it. The bracket was half seeded the night before with everyone but 1 in the bottom bracket.

Why soooo much beating this horse? Just wrestle. A great deal of times Trackwrestling will place the "top" lower percentage loss wrestlers in the top bracket and they wrestle. So the Trackwrestling system isn't that golden! Just wrestle! Your looking at getting these kids towards HS & hopefully farther in their wrestling sport. 6 year olds & under don't necessarily need to be seated. This tournament had < 400 kids!

Ultimately, it's a lot like life--sometimes we win, sometimes we lose. Yes, winning matters just like losing matters. Keep in mind that after a loss something is learned. Hence LOSS = Learning Opportunity Stay Strong!

Just my .02

In it to win it.

Yes Drew is my son. he has come a long way this season. part of the reason is because he wrestled all the big nationals and big tournaments in kansas this year. he has an older brother so gets the chance to travel with him. i didnt mention the moving around so much for the 6 under kids but these next couple weeks you will see lots of parents and coaches moving the kids around. if thats what they want thats ok by me. im not going to move my kids just so they have a chance to win a state championship. i had to move my son up last year due to his weight knowing he probably would not win state due to one of the kids in that bracket. i will worry about those state championships when we get to highschool.
