I get your meaning. So a bracket could have 6-8 state champions and another 2-0. Kind of defeats the purpose of the tournament. However, it would be fun seeing all those kids trying to make it to the top.
As with all 1st time things, a little tweeking will be needed in time. I thank the people for the effort and energy to bring this event to reality.

In 3-2-1A the Norton Wrestling Team will support this tourn. to the full extent of KSHSAA rules.
In the past many High school wrestlers have gone on to compete in the 3 week long Kids State Series, and KSHSAA has not regulated it much. I do not see this event as much different, only better because it is only 1 week after the H.S. state tournament.

But as mentioned, In order for it to be successful, we need the top wrestlers to attend.

Not many of the state champs attend the kids series. If this is not endorsed as part of the season by KSHSAA many will not participate. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea. I wish they had as an option when my son was in HS. But they did this back in the 80's (yes along time ago), and the issues were that if their coach cannot coach them, there are no organized practices, it's optional, it's still seen as "after" the season, many will not attend.

Then is loses the luster of a "Grand State". Still would be a nice tournament for those who go, but not grand state.

Currently, 56 wrestlers have confirmed they would attend the Grand State tournament. Currently, that is not near enough to continue working on this tournament. I will need at least 300 wrestlers to confirm on their attendance in order to reserve the Bi-Centenniel Center by November 20th.

Kansas - if you want this tournament to happen it will.
The final decision will be made on November 19th.

Coaches, wrestlers, let me know asap.

In order for you to get 300 wrestlers that is 21 kids for each of the 14 weight classes. That is asking for 87.5% of the state placers to participate or 33.5% of all of those who qualified for HS state. I would love to see it happen. It is a good idea. Here is the reality, I usually have 50 kids sign up for my kids tournaments as of the Saturday before the tournament only to end up with 500 by the Thursday before! smile Wrestling families don't like to plan ahead. Someone will have to roll the dice if this is going to happen.

This was attempted following the official KSHSAA Grand State Tournaments of '75 & '76 was cancelled and it was not a success. Many of the State Tournament finalist did not want to put in jeopardy their finish at State and many were involved in Spring sports. I don't see it being much of a success.

its only as successful as the people making it happen. only way to make it happen is to get all the parents and coaches on board. you know that kshsaa will not help out so it really comes down to the parents, coaches and then the boys.

I am a bit confused. I thought that it was for state medalist? If there are no state medalist yet, how can there be a commitment?

It has to be an open tournament, per KSHSAA rules. I explained that at the beginning of this post.

It is an open tournament!! anyone can enter, The hope is that many or most of the top wrestlers in the state are involved in this open tournament. It is not a grandstate tournament!

Thank you to everyone who showed interest in the Grand State Tournament idea. However, we are not going to be able to hold this tournament this year. Today is the deadline for the deposit for the facility. And at this time, I do not feel we have an adequate amount of interest from coaches or wrestlers to procede. Good luck this season to everyone!
