This year Kansas USA Wrestling will host the official 6U State Tournament. Kansas boasts more than 2,000 USA Card buyers in this age group. We would like to see as many of these wrestlers as possible show up in Salina the weekend of February 22nd. First to watch the 4A state tournament and then to compete on Sunday to see who the best six year olds are in their respective weight class. Custom belts will be awarded to each champion and medals to 2nd through 6th placers. We will award and OW medal as well as medal for most falls, least time. We will seperate wrestlers entered from the same club and that will be the ONLY seeding criteria.

This arena will be spacious enough for us to lay down 8 full size mats. No doubt there will be some very large brackets which may lead to the need for a qualifying series in the future.

Parents, put this event on your calendar. Take your little wrestlers to watch the HS finals on Saturday night and then bring them back on Sunday to battle for a belt!

More details will be posted each week. We are locking in a host hotel where weigh ins will be conducted. The tournament will be managed on trackwrestling.com.

The question has been asked: "If you wrestle in the Salina 6U State tounament can you still wrestle in 8U in the Kansas Kids State Tournament?"

If you participate in this event it does NOT prevent you from wrestling 8U in the USAW Kansas Kids State series.

Who are some of the litte hammers in 6U? What names should we be watching for at each weight?

Another question: "Do you have to qualify for this tournament?"

I am assuming this refers to a DIstrict or Sub District qualifying event. The answer is NO. It is OPEN to ALL 6U Kansas wreslters. Undoubtedly there will be some big brackets. We will be offering eight full size mats, plenty of seating, and no charge for a coach pass (must have a valid USA Wrestling Coach Card and a USA Wrestling Bronze Certification).

We will waive admission for those who have a current USA Coach Card and a Bronze Card.

There are ALOT of complaints about how the Bi-Centinial staff and security treated parents this year at the Salina TOC. Have these issues been brought up to the Staff in Salina? I would hate for the First 6U State Tournament hosted by Kansas USA Wrestling to be a bad experience.

James Cook and I are setting up a call with the events director, Chris Bird. We will address all of the concerns that have been passed along to us.

I would encourage all of the wrestling advocates out there to email your concerns and suggestions to Mr. Bird. He needs to understand that their policies are unacceptable. Cbird@bicentennialcenter.com

QUESTION: I know in the past they have allowed a 1 pound weight allowance for wrestlers who compete in a tournament the day before 6 & Under state. Is this policy going to be in place this year?

Thanks!
Jessica Fuller
Lakin Mat Crew

We will NOT be giving any weight allowance but we will allow wrestlers to bump up one weight class if they do not make weight. This change will be free of charge.

I see where you will waive the fee for coaches that have a bronze and a current wrestling card. Does that mean you must have those two cards to coach from mat side?

Any idea on whether or not the Bi-Center will be able to fix the wifi issue in time for 6u State? I'd really hate to see the first 6u State Championships not posted on Track.

I know KSHAA has been working on an internet solution for the 4a state tournament held the 2 days before this one. I'd suspect this one will use the same or something similar so it can/will support trackwrestling.

Yes, this is the same requirement you will have to meet in order to coach at sub districts, districts and state in the USAW Kansas Kids State series.

Be sure to make your hotel reservations soon as hotel space will be limited with some carryover from HS State.
