Recently a friend of mine asked me, Why do I call wrestlers fish? I told her that there are three types of fish, in my opinion.

1) I believe that every beginner is a fish because he or she has not done anything yet in the sport. They don't understand the rules and the pride wrestlers have in not getting pinned.

2) The second type of fish is a wrestler who always gets pinned.

3) The third type of fish is an established wrestler who loses his or her heart and quits during a match. This is the worst type of fish, in my own opinion. I call these wrestlers SUPER FISH!

So, if you are a wrestler who falls under the first two categories of fishes keep fighting. I believe that you can get better, because you keep coming back to the wrestling room and learning. Just say to yourself, I'm not a fish and I'm not going to get pinned!

Established wrestler(s) if you find yourself in the role of a super fish. It's never good to called a fish, so have some pride about yourself and prove people and the label wrong. The way to do that is through hard work and listening to people who have more experience than you. To be a super fish in my book means you have an established good background in the sport.

Super Fish(es) revert your attitude and habits back to what got you to the top.

A fish is a wrestler that is flat out crappy and gets pounded on by anyone he wrestles.

Here are a few fish that i know of:
-LancerM, Mark Schieber, ABartels and Jhris Cennings.

I consider a fish some one who worms around alot or slips all over the place when you are trying to hold them on their back.

There was a heavyweight on my team last year that smelled like a fish. Does that count?

Sometimes we wrestle and start out as guppies, only to become Killer Whales (not to be confused with Blu Wahle of UNO) I recall not being good but fighting for everything. I pinned JJ Shields of McPherson who 2 or 3 years later went on to be a state champion. I also remember coach Jagerson telling me my senior year in a home dual to go stick this fish, well I did in :25 seconds, 2 days later I pinned him in round 1 of the Herington open. He went on to be a 321A state qualifier at Hwt in 2001.

slayer, what have you ever accomplished in college? I don't consider that a fish, especially at the college level especially at UCO. It takes a lot of guts just to step out there against some of those guys.

That's what it looks like you were implying, especially after what you said after nigel's comment.

Coach Casteel:

Posting a season record obtained from the UCO web site is not implying anything.

As stated earlier, it is posting factual information, so you may draw your own conclusion based on the facts.

Richard D. Salyer--You are a freakin' jerk. How are you going to post a JV college wrestler's record on the "what is a fish" post? Did you wrestle in high school/college? What was your record?

Pretty weak, Conehead.

Richard D. Salyer, who are you and what do you do? Not to be confused with, "Who is your daddy, and what does he do?"

So this kid is putting on his shoes right, and his mom says, honey you're putting your shoes on the wrong feet, and the little kid says, no mom these are my feet

I watched a dual last Thursday and time and time again I kept saying to myself " fish ". I personally think of a fish when a kid doesn't grasp angles. For example when a kid is trying to hit a gramby and the other kid blocks it with his hips but the kid doesn't feel his weight counter and keeps trying to roll through and gets pinned. That is my classic example of a fish. And it doesn't always mean lack of experience. One of my good wrestling buddies who was a state champ for south and great overall athlete didn't see his angle on a match and pinned himself at a kids regional. That was a fish move (and pretty **** funny), having a brain fart during a match doesn't mean you lost your heart but can make you look like a fish.

Those are just my thoughts on the subject.
