I understand what everyone is saying about the traveling and I did not think you were knocking Kansas wrestling or Pittsburgh. I was just weighing in on the post. It is very hard to find a place that makes everyone happy.
I really wanted to host a Regional when I was at Sabetha, after they got a new gym, but to be honest there is no where in Sabetha for more than 2 teams to stay. The hotels in Seneca and Hiawatha will be full this year with a Regional there.
I am very happy with my teams Regional site, Burlington is only 40 minutes away! I did not mean to step on any toes.

1. Yes I can confirm.
2. No we will not be waking up our wrestlers at 4am to scramble to the bus and leave by 5am or 5:30 (it would be ill advised to leave at 6am for an 8:30am weigh in deadline).
3. I know at least two schools have already made their reservations. After shopping around we wound up with a total cost of $1,000 for our rooms.
4. This has never been an issue with Pittsburg's ability to host or run a tournament but more about transparency and fiscal responsibility. If you have the option to only have ONE team travel instead of SEVEN it would make the most common sense to explore those options. Each of the seven schools could share the cost for Pittsburg's travel with all schools being in a better financial position with that solution. The gate revenue will suffer as more fans, parents, and supporters would attend if they only had to travel 20 miles instead of 120 miles.

Apparently the process is triggered by a form distributed by KSHSAA in the spring of the previous school year. Of course this offer plenty of issues: Will the AD be returning? Will the wresting coach be returning? Did the AD and/or Coach know that the form had to be completed for an event to be held almost a year later? Does the school know what classification they will be in? Does the school know what their basketball or activity calendar will look like 10 months in advance? No one knows how the regionals will be grouped as this seems to be some top secret decision by KSHSAA. No one I have talked to has any idea how this is done and most didn't know that a form had to be completed in the spring. In many cases KSHSAA contacts schools to see if they are willing to host or at least this has been the past practice. I think uncertainty and a failure to educate has created a situation that unfortunately doesn't make common sense nor is fiscally responsible.

I know Doug and Scott will do a good job but that doesn't make it the right decision.

Whoops add another FACT to why this is a bad idea.

People traveling from KC will not have time to stop at Chicken Annies on the way home.

Thanks Beeson for the info.

The only legitimate question to be asked and answered in this thread is........

Guess its just all how you look at life. If I were to be put in this horrible situation My thoughts would be more along the lines of........Cool, a LESS than 2 hour drive down one of the best roads in Kansas, good facilities, in a really cool town, what a way to spend a Saturday.

But I would have to go with Saturday night at Barto's. Chickens awesome and you can get your polka fix all at the same time. Annies and Marys is more of a Sunday thing.

The more I think about this the more I feel disenfranchized. Last years MORE than 2 hour trip to Garden Plain. Then have to turn around and drive the 2nd day to wrestle a kid that lives less than 15 minutes from my house. Those two could have just met in the corn field west of Bennington and saved both of us over 200 miles of travel. WOW... what was the KSHSAA thinken!

And where the H... are the hotels in Garden Plain anyway?

But hey, this years trip to Hoisington down one of the worst roads in Kansas should be a cake walk. Im sure the down town Hilton will be a lot of fun for the kids.

Won't the little guys on the dasher board on trackwrestling settle it. The tournament is pre-seeded - isn't the electronic age great. No need for travel.

Could you throw Jim's Chicken (Salina) as a "Honorable Mention"?

No, Chief nor Will approved theses rankings. Just Wondering, just to let you know, Chief and Will have eaten all over this country, and sometimes internationally. They have forgotten more about food than you will ever know. For you to come on here and rank food without approval from either of them, shows your ignorance of this forum. lol

Not Fair. The Chicken House in Olpe is under PRIVATE Ownership. I hear they recruit the best chickens from all over the state.

You beat me to this.

Yes Al's is open again after a short closure. We also have JD's chicken. I think Hays could be in the running for the best chicken places, but it will be hard to beat Chicken Annie's, we have to hit Chicken Annie's when we go back to visit family.

As far as the regional assignments go, I say just go wrestle and leave the drama out of where it is being held at. This is just my opinion.
