Chief will have to remind me of the criteria. I am a little slow on remembering things.
1. SJA 2. GC 3. sta
are all clearly at the top.
But after that - in terms of athletes in the ranking it is a crap shoot.
Remember that these team rankings are not a "Grand State" tournament ranking. They are full team rankings and largely reflect the individual class rankings with an inter-class comparison. In the class rankings it's somewhat less subjective, as the ranked wrestlers compile uniform points with additional points added for non-ranked wrestlers that are anticipated to win one or two matches at state. So these All-Class team rankings are not arrived at by simply adding up the points of their AC wrestlers.
While some would argue that our overall depth in Kansas is down from previous years, I actually think these top ten teams are as strong throughout as I've seen in awhile.
SJA, GC, STA and KMC are a slice above in their own category in my opinion. Each of these teams could have 6-9 placers. Junction will have Millsap and Denton returning soon and will make 6A interesting with 7 placers or more. Can anybody ever discount a Greg Buckbee team? Ark has tough guys coming out of the woodwork and it would not surprise me to see the defending champs in the top three of the gauntlet known as 5A. MV, GD, NOR and HOL are very close in that 4-10 spot, but let me mention once again that we have a sleeping giant in our midst with the Goddard Lions. The hard work in the kids clubs have replenished this proud team. They have six ranked 5A wrestlers with another six that will be inflicting damage in their state brackets. It's also nice to see the rising Chanute, Bishop Carroll, Wichita West and Olathe North squads. Combine those with perennial powers Wichita Northwest, Manhattan, Derby, Newton and Andale.... and we have ourselves a battlefield!
Gives me a smile on my face thinking about the All-Class Dual Teams in March!
