Does anyone have a list of schools that will be taking part in the Chanute tournament and maybe a list of ranked wrestlers who will be competing?

Just got word on FB that Fredonia Tournament was cancelled due to possible weather. Is there any discussion about this happening for Chanute this weekend?

Administers doing what is best for the kids is not always best for the kids. Tournaments that Cancel because of Possible Weather have AD's that would rather be doing something besides hosting wrestling. Very Sad.

Disagree, putting my child on a bus at 5:45am, with icy roads, does not make for an ease of mind morning. Especially with some old timer doing the driving for extra $$. My son was disappointed, maintained weight for the morning weigh in. But at some point you have to put SAFETY over wrestling.

Leave the tournament on and let each school make their own decision in the morning when it is time to hit the road. If the weather is not that bad in the morning you could still wrestle. Once it's cancelled there isn't even a chance to wrestle.

Ok, agree. If you're only driving 20 miles or so. But roads here could be crap. But the further south, north, east, west, you go they are ok. Where is the line drawn on safety? Mother Nature doesn't tell us in advance what the roads will be like. Don't get me wrong here. Would rather wrestle than stay home. But some teams have to travel many miles to get there. So you leave it on, and only the locals show up. Now is it a tournament, or a dual?

While I don't know the reasons why they chose to cancel it, I can say that anyone who knows our A.D. knows that there is NOTHING that he would rather be doing than hosting wrestling.

I sure remember the roads driving to State last year. I70 had been open only 3 or 4 hours when we left for Hays. The show must go on. Let the athletic departments decide for their school.

Olathe North Dual Tournament cancelled. I remember going to the Rossville Holiday Classic the day after Christmas with 6+ inches of snow and blowing snow all the way there (for a Kids' tournament). I suspect they had a lot more ice than here in Lawrence, otherwise I have no idea why they cancelled one of my favorite High School tournaments.

Woods Classic in January 2005 (Kids' tournament), blowing snow all the way there and ice packed parking lot at the Chanute High School. It was challenging, but we made it and the tournament was on.

Shawnee Mission North Tournament was cancelled Saturday. I could have made it there to officiate it, but it would have been slick. And they were predicting more snow, which of course missed us. Seemed like the right choice to me.
It took me 1 1/2 hours to go from Olathe to Baldwin City on Friday in the freezing rain (usually a 25 minute drive). I-35 was nearly closed. Vehicles flipped over, cars smashed up for several miles. I almost gave up and turned around, but they were talking 2 hour delays heading the other way. I was certain I'd get there and it would be cancelled, but it was a couple degrees warmer heading west and the back roads (had to detour) were OK, except everybody was now scared to death and driving 25 mph...which was fine, just slow on a wet-only road.
I grew up in Iowa. We drove on snow and ice-packed roads for several months every winter with bias-ply tires and rear-wheel drive cars and seemed to get around, but I wouldn't take the risk now if I was an AD. Too many heavy SUV's driving way too fast for conditions with no drivers ed.
