Jeff was an outstanding young man whom I had the tremendous pleasure of first coaching against him when he was a great competitor wrestling in college at Southwest Missouri State and then making an immediate friendship with him when he arrived on the KS coaching scene in Minneapolis. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones. Wayne Petterson

Words cannot express my sadness to the Giles family. Jeff was a great guy, always happy, always fair, cared so very much about each and every athlete he ever coached. He had a passion to teach and coach every wrestler about wrestling and about life! I have always held him in the very highest of respect, as a coach and a person. I am blessed to have known him. God bless you my friend!
You and your family will remain in my prayers. Harry LaMar

Great words Coach LaMar. This is extremely sad, for school & community, mostly the family. Very tough time. I only met him once, when he was presented his 321A Coach of the Year Award, he seemed like such a great guy & great educator.

Sad day for the State of Kansas and for the wrestling community. He was a good man and his wrestlers competed hard for him every time they stepped on the mat, which shows the respect they had for him. The wrestling community, or family as I like to call it, is so strong and so close that we all mourn and suffer when we lose one of our own. This proves to the fact that their is a higher power in charge who was ready for Coach Giles to come home. Romans 14:8- "If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord." God Bless u Coach Giles and your family

I couldn't post on the site earlier because I was not a member and had to register but I have been reading all of the posts on here about Jeff. I have been a good friend of Jeff Giles and his entire family since grade school. Jeff and I were close in high school and college and he was one of the best guys I have ever known and a great athlete who had the highest integrity and sportsmanship. Even back then he would always be giving us little pieces of advice like he knew something we all had not caught on to yet. It has been several years since I have seen him but he always had a smile. In high school he had his ornery side but always in a fun way and we got into lots of fun and mishaps. Him coming to Minneapolis and meeting his wife, Dina, was one of the best things to happen for him. I know he loved coaching and the community and his family and students. I think he came out there because of our high school coach, Coach Crockett. I know he was a pillar of the community in Minneapolis and the overall wrestling community in KS and such a role model. I live in Indianapolis now but there is no way I would not make it out to see him off for his funeral to his final home. I will miss my friend and brother very much.

Just wanted to share.
