Thanks to the Chief, we have the all class team rankings which are great. The rankings are based on the state tournament scoring and of course we have the class seperation which the good teams wont see each other. Every good wrestling fan knows that sometimes the best tournament team is not the best dual team. Unfortunately, the state dual tournament is not part of the Kansas agenda. So here's the hypothetical question: Who would win a all class dual tournament? Who is the best dual team in the Sunflower state?

Say all the big hitters were there (St James, Garden City, Gardner-Edgerton, Aquinas). What if somebody put the 14 match lineups next to each other and estimated wins and bonus points. What would the score be between St James Academy and Garden City?

Cokeley already did this back in January after the GC tourn. It is hard to say if this is how it would acutally work out or not.

How would they stack up?

106 - Efrain Sanchez (20-10) placed 4th and scored 18.00 team points. vs Jackson Ott SJA We will give GC a bonus point.
GC 4 SJA 0

113 - Michael Prieto (35-2) placed 1st and scored 29.50 team points. vs Steve Tujague SJA It is a decision as it happened.
GC 7 SJA 0

120 - Mark Perez (19-16) placed 11th and scored 11.50 team points. vs Max Goode SJA (Toss Up)
GC 10 SJA 0

126 - Thomas Marquez (5-11) place is unknown and scored 4.00 team points. vs Reese Cokeley
GC 10 SJA 6

132 - Alec Castillo (8-6) placed 4th and scored 15.50 team points. vs Zak Hensley
GC 10 SJA 12

138 - Tevin Briscoe (24-3) placed 1st and scored 26.50 team points. vs Clay Lautt (Mies caught Clay but I am saying Tevin doesn't)
GC 14 SJA 12

145 - Chris Adler (36-6) placed 3rd and scored 22.00 team points.vs Andrew Tujague
GC 14 SJA 15

Three falls to two in favor of Garden City...

This isn't our varsity line up! My 132 and my 160 pounders don't give up falls!! It would be a good dual!! We will never know! We need to dual in the future and the perfect day will the Friday before KC Stampede!!! Set it up!

You mean the Thursday before and that doesn't make sense to make weight three days in a row. We need to meet in the middle and get it done. Maybe at Newman? Top 4 teams in a quad on a Wednesday night? 1-4, 2-3, 1-3, 2-4, 1-2, 3-4. Two mats and six duals starting at 4pm. Marquee matchup at 8pm.

We did it last year! We dualed against Lawrence! It happens all the time!! We had teams that did it this year before the Welton which is why all teams got the 2 plus 2!! Make the weight, is what I tell my kids!!! They will rise to the challenge if the coach challenges them!! I read all the time on here how kids are soft!!! Make the weight, shuffle your kids around and wrestle the best!! At that time last year Lawrence was ranked 2 behind us, I wanted to find out how good we really were!! They had some kids out but we still made the weight, showed up and wrestled! We then turned around and made weight two more times that weekend!! Oh and we went on and won the state championship!!! Prepare the boys for what really counts, STATE!!!

You know I agree but I am going to draw the line on making weight three days in a row. State is only a two day event. You don't even have to do that at Fargo. smile

Not at all. There is NO WAY that you are making your kids better by wrestling three days in a row and making weight three days in a row. That is a philosophy. Coach Prieto must have a different one. SJA's goals are to place all individuals as high as possible at state to gain the highest placing as a team. State is a two day, two weigh in event. Wrestle as many of those as possible to prepare to achieve your goals.

I offered a perfectly viable option with what I believe to be great fan appeal.

Keep wondering instead of accusing.

My philosophy is to prepare them for state!! To make them great young men on and off the mat! We did this one time last year and yes it was the THURSDAY before the Stampede and yes they made weight 3 days in a row!! I totally get it that it's hard enough to make weight for some but they did it! When you make weight aren't you also getting mat time? The more mat time kids get will make them better period!! I know I will then hear the argument, how can they perform if they are worried about weight? This is where mental toughness comes in to play. I guess my kids didn't nickname me the Dictator for being easy on them!! I don't think having them do it once in a great while is all that tough!! We didn't do it this year but if a good tough team asked for a dual prior to a tournament then maybe we will jump on that!!! I remember Ponderosa and Hoxie setting it up and getting after it prior to the Rocky Welton! It didn't hurt their kids because they got on the bus weighed in the couple of days and won the Welton that year!!! I'm finished!!

Gee Will, just having a little fun.

Just found a little humor in the thread.

The two big bullies on the block have been debating all year who is tougher. One Bully said ok let's findout. We will come to your house and lets get it on. Other Bully says no thanks because i don't think it is in the best interest of my kids.

Reasons(some might say excuses)don't really matter.

I for one would love to see it. Sure others would to.

No one will debate the fact that you are doing what you believe is best for SJA wrestlers.

Just curious. Did SJA wrestle Garndner Edgerton in a dual? If not how would they match up against Saint James? Should they be in the discussion?

IMO St. James wins 10 weights to 3 against GE with one toss-up. SJA by 20-25 points.

GC and SJA are very close and the next group is HOL/GD/MV/KMC/DB followed by a group of MH/JC/GE/NOR/NEW/ARK.

Just wondering, how many of these teams went undefeated in duals this year. Wouldn't this make for the "best" dual team? I'm sure there are a few. Does anyone know how many accomplished this?

There you go 3 undefeated teams so far! We went 14-4 so we are out of the discussion of best dual team!
