Here is the reason each district has to have the autonomy to make their own decision:

District entries:
District 1 - 1197
District 2 - 827
District 3 - 914
District 4 - 754

This is a total of 3,692.

I don’t know that there is a disagreement that each district is different and potentially needs to be dealt with different but I think the real issue is that it appears this decision was made without the consideration of the STATE executive council. You know the folks that represent the entire USAWKS.

I really don't need any cut and paste job from the by-laws, district entry numbers, or mileage charts depicting the distance and cost from the Colorado border to Kansas City (or even from Kansas City to Pittsburg). For my purposes, just assure me that when my son shows up ready to wrestle on Saturday, others listed in the bracket will be there as well. We are looking forward to a great day of wrestling. If this is not the case, he has a lot of firewood to split that day.

I assure you this was not the case. There has been and will continue to be ongoing discussion. There is need for the bylaws to be more objective to provide greater clarity and perhaps continuity but at this time members of the USAWKS Kids Executive Board were keenly aware of the Bylaw in question. Decisions have been made. Plans are now in place. Everyone knows what the current situation is so lets just wrestle the next three weeks. At that time we can discuss and there is opportunity for all of the membership to weigh in with mail and/or email. While the Forum is great for open discussion and the percolating of ideas it is not where policy is going to be made nor where we can vote.

Yes I have emailed D2 director with no response. I heard from a coach HS can wrestle at D2 subs and get a better seed at Districts as opposed to those who do not wrestle at subs

You have certainly not emailed me. I have responded to every email I have received over this matter. I do not consider a PM from a message board signed by a pseudonym to be an official request for anything.

James Cook - I thought I understood that District 3 for the HS Division was an "open tournament" and not the qualifier to go on to District. High School Division (for District 3) wasn't required to wrestle until District @ McPherson.

Is that NOT correct???

Very disappointed to see District tourney scheduled the same time as NCAA's in OKC. frown I would just like to propose that those of you who might have a say consider that when you schedule next year. My son is new to KS and we had to make a choice between wrestling Districts and therefore State, and attending the NCAA's. He signed up for Subs but will scratch as it's not fair to possibly keep another wrestler out of Districts when he won't be able to wrestle it. Darn shame, this is the first year he will forgo USA State Folkstyle.

We would never get them wrestled if we scheduled around NCAA, NAIA, Conference wrestling, High School State. DVR

They would if state was wrestled this weekend. May need to look at shorting the season.

Wait you want to cut a full 3 weeks off the current kids wrestling season, just so a couple of kids can go watch the NCAAs?

Ok well that would push the Kids State tournament to this weekend which means District tournaments would be on the same weekend as High School State, and Sub-Distrcts would be the weekend of High School Regionals. Perhaps we should just finish the season the 2nd weekend in February. That would amount to 6-7 regular tournaments and then straight into State qualifying. I guess its not important for the kids to watch their high school counterparts and skip right over to attending the NCAA tournament, which most kids federation level competitors in Kansas do not do regardless of when they are held.

And this is to say nothing of the notion of "get the kids more mat time" which is a lot more difficult if we shorten the season as you propose.

Easy solution...get rid of subs all together, Districts the weekend after High School State, get rid of High School Division if the numbers continue to be poor, Kids State Two Weeks after High School State. Get to Freestyle/Greco.

Chad, I suggested getting rid of subs several years ago. BUT, doing so would require one or more of the following to occur in order to be accomplished...

1. Re-districting in order to get a more even distribution of competitors.
2. The elimination of the high school/16U division (which if done should include adding the 6U division)
3.The split of the district tournament between weekends and possibly host clubs.

All that said, I would bet you money, marbles or chalk that if the Kids State date is moved up, you will have clubs hosting folkstyle invitationals after State and most likely more tournaments earlier in the Fall.
And none of this will effect FS/GR numbers or participation!
