i think that Jim Ryan who wrestled for TMP-M i believe is one of the best state chamions for the pure fact that he was undefeated his senior senior and the state champion

T.J. Staab was by far the most impressive state champion in 321A! Ubben was also great but Staab was totally dominant throughout the entire tournament.

What about Noah Clouse his junior year? He tore everyone apart all year. And that was also his second straight undefeated season. And he won it again the next year, with 3 losses during the season. He has got to be considered

I don't remember Ryan from Tmp or what year he wrestled. I am not sure wahat this topic is. Apparently it is about all time. While the guys listed were obviously good, it is somewhat of a stretch to say they were the best all time. Even more the discussion is so open to interpretation, best wrestler, or most succesful, best career, best senior year, best at their peak, they all favor different answers. You can make a case for lots of people but it isn't worthy of the discussion. Find me the baddest dude you know and I will find someone to whip him and that pretty much sums up the discussion on the best ever. It is fleeting. Just two guys wrestling have different winners from week to week.

Staab certainly was one of the best in 3A this year, but Drennan, Ubben, and Patton all would have to be mentioned in the same breath.

Best 321A State champ? How about the only 4 time 321A State Champ...Bill Gabel of St. Francis?

I agree with you, fanatic, we will never be able to settle on a certain wrestler, for many reasons.
we can't compare many great wrestlers because of style, competition, and of course the time difference. I think we all just like to see who others think should be considered, but we will never be able to decide.

Certainly Billy Gabel was excellent (even if Goodland didn't figure it out) and anyone winning state four times is special but then a freshman wrestling in the light weights against other young kids is an unfair claim over bigger kids who would have to wrestle mostly juniors and seniors to accomplish the same. I don't know therefore that the 4 yr thing necessarily is more special than 3 yr winners at bigger weights like Boyle just for one example.

My vote goes to Billy Gabel. Winning 4 state titles regardless of whether you are wrestling in the lighter weights or the heavier weights is still an amazing accomplishment. If it was easier to win 4 state titles in the lighter weights why do we not have more 4 timers? With regard to Goodland not knowing what they had for a coach, hopefully Billy has moved on to better opportunities and best of luck to him.

There is no if about it. It is still tough but look at the ones that have done it and most started out as a lightweight.

I have to agree with fanatic. A three timer in the upper weights is just as impressive as a four timer in the lower weights. Does anybody know what four timer won in the heavest weight his freshman year.

1974 Oeser, Roy [Kapaun Mount Carmel] (155 lb. )1975 Oeser, Roy [Kapaun Mount Carmel] (155 lb. )
1976 Oeser, Roy [Kapaun Mount Carmel] (167 lb. )
1977 Oeser, Roy [Kapaun Mount Carmel] (167 lb. )

That would be my guess although I didn't check others?

I haven't researched it but I too was thinking Oeser. A four time 3A state champion.
