Saw this survey on the KWCA page. Looks like there is movement to get the MS seasons in line across the state and early in the year rather than later.

With the early season we only miss 1 kids club tournament.

Just finished the survey. Only 8 people have filled it out so far. Things won't change unless we start the change. Please fill out the survey. Thanks

All of the D2 AVCTL clubs need to be working on their AD's and THEN if no success, work on their BOE members. With Salina joining the Pioneer League, even if the above survey is not positive we have a real opportunity to make the change regardless of what KSHSAA does.

Talking points with your AD and BOE.....

1. This is good for the student athlete because they get a chance to try both sports.
2. It frees up valuable gym space for both boys and girls basketball as well as wrestling duals.
3. It allows middle schools to hire teachers who also coach basketball who are well qualified for both and if willing, can coach both boys and girls. Thus, putting more money in the teacher/coach's pocket via supplemental contracts and possibly leading to higher retention. Regardless of the sport, I'm sure many middle schools have to force new hires to coach in many instances.
4. It allows the student who wants to devote more time to either wrestling or basketball, the opportunity to do so through participation in youth teams before or after their middle school season.
5. Did I forget to mention that it's good for the student/athlete?

When talking to your AD, be prepared to meet resistance. Remember, these are for the most part basketball people and likely former coaches. Treat them with respect and NEVER lose your temper!

I just wish someone with some real influence could bring middle school wrestling back to Topeka Public Schools. It's sad and pathetic that a school district of this size can de-emphasize athletics the way it has over the years. It's no wonder so many families that value athletics and education leave USD 501's boundaries. We might be next...

They could have made the survey a little easier to fill out which would likely have led to more responses. I guess I am not sure why they needed so many required responses. The best thing the state can do is have all MS/JH wrestling teams wrestle in Nov/Dec so that they can go on to wrestle most of the Kids Fed schedule.

Just like all government ran agencies follow the same set up. Too many Chiefs and not enough Indians. With the schools following this set up the kids suffer. When the kids suffer we suffer. These are the kids that will be taking care of us at the old folks wrestling room. Keep that in mind. Things that keep me up at night.
