Precisely why I brought up checking the oil, chin to chest, honeymooner etc. Girls belong in a girls league..boys in a boys league BUT until that happens there are many factors to consider mixing them together. Social stigma not withstanding...not to mention the sexual harrassment issue...it is my belief we weren't meant to roll around on a mat together in positions that are quite alarming groping one another all in the name of sport. I also don't feel females who feel they can perform well and not just against males should be made to wait until a "league of their own" is popular. Tough issue but as a parent I believe it DOES need discussed how a male feels wrestling a female and a how a female feels getting ahold of someones johnson and all those positions and brushing it off as "it is a sport" doesn't cut it. I cheer gals who wrestle..I make it a point to be on their side..I also make it a point to realise boundaries are being crossed and all in the name of sport. Kudos to Ms Jenni and Coach Ed for all you are doing. You are making a difference.

Girls have the choice of competing in a predominately male's sport, they accept the moves, the lifestyle, the sacrafice like everyone else, but they do not have the mindset and feelings of males thus they become emotional at times, but alas to everyone complaining that the fathers/mothers don't want their little girl on the mat with boys, apparently they don't too much or she wouldn't be out there would she? Girls have accepted the moves as wrestling moves for which they are, and are in no way sexual, just part of the sport. If they bother them that much then quit, if they don't good thing then.

the best female wrestler by far has to be the girl on Saved by the Bell, who learned all of her moves from the legendary A.C. Slater.

There is an increasing market for the female wrestler in the college ranks and women's wrestling is picking up momentum. The pioneers in that area are in their 30's or so now, seems like the Sunkist club in Ca. and Az. and the now defunct Foxcatcher (no pun intended) club in Pa. started big time women clubs, and it seems to me that it would have been difficult if not impossible to collect quality competitors even in the small group that existed at that time, had there not been a rather tolerant view on their participation in men's events because that is all that existed at the time. We have a young woman that is wrestling at 112 or 119 here at Pratt, she is here because she has family here that she is living with while both of her parents serve in Iraq. (They lived somewhere in the southeast before.) I had really not thought much about the issue before but watching her in practice and noting her determination has caused me to appreciate what wrestling has for her, she is a new kid in a strange school with different family environment than she grew up with and both parents in an everyday life or death situation, and wrestling, a sport she has done since childhood, is a release or a refuge that she should be entitled to just as much as any guy should be. With School budgets as they are, I don't see a women exclusive venue coming soon. So, whatever the obstacles, in the present system young women that have the desire to compete should be allowed to do so, in my view.

I have no problem what so ever when girls wrestle. As parents you want to give you kids every opportunity to grow in life and wrestling is a sport I believe molded me. I am not yet a parent but if I have a girl I would consider letting her wrestle at a younger age to learn the many skills that will help her in life. I would however leada her to basketball around the 5 and 6th grade and when jr High came around manager would be the stand I would take. I think she will become more stable in school is she stayed in basketball and was not upon as different. Just my opinion. I have seen alot of great girls out there and I can tell you that I will never think poorly of one that wrestles in high School- more power to them. It is tough enough out there and to see them struggle when they were once so good is hard forme as well

I know it's a bit off topic, but i was at the atchison varsity tournament this past Saturday and saw on the handout of the teams there that Perry-Lecompton or one of those little schools had a female head coach. I was just curious as to whether that was true or just a typo. I saw a female in the coach's corner for all of the matches for the team, but there was also a male coach there too. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if Perry's coach is really female and how long has she been coaching? I think that's awesome if there really was a female coach.

The last I knew the coach at Perry-Lecompton was Trevor Grey. I don't know who the girl is. We wrestle them Thursday so we'll see.

Ya the coach at Perry-Lecompton is Trevor Gray. I am related to him and I talked to him at the family reunion last month.

But the question isn't if people feel comfertable with a girl and a guy wrestling. The question was do u guys know any girls that wrestle and are good at it.

Does anyone know if that Taplin girl from Abilene (don't know her first name) is wrestling this year? Thought she would do really well for the Kansas Girl team.

I think the turner girl was around 135 or 140. I'm not sure though of her grade. I've seen her wrestle a few times, she's tough.
