Host Schools. How will the Schools be assigned?
Quite a challenge to separate using geography, strength of program, Hotel facilities, etc...
Would like to see and hear your thoughts before official announcement. Hurry to make your predictions before the final State list.

Ranking of Regionals based on 4A Preview. Might be a silly way to rank the regionals, but wanted to have a little fun! The 4A Preview ranks the top 30 teams in order.

Colby Regional:
Top 10 teams- 5 (1,6,7,9,10)
Overall number of teams in top 30- 8

Concordia Regional:
Top 10 teams- 4 (2,3,4,8)
Overall number of teams in top 30- 8

Fort Scott Regional:
Top 10 teams- 0
Overall number of teams in top 30- 7

Rose Hill Regional:
Top 10 teams- 1 (5)
Overall number of teams in top 30- 6

Here are some stats based on the 4A Preview. You be the judge?

I don't know about these schools but a lot of times a small school will have a wrestler or two that wrestles in a co-op with another school until regionals when they have to split from the team and wrestle at their regional. I believe Morland did this several years ago with Hoxie and Dighton used to do it with Scott City.

Baxter Springs does this with Columbus
Frontenac does this (I believe) with Pittsburg
Neodesha does this with Fredonia

In track Sedan did that with Caney but now does it with West Elk.

There are a couple of schools around Salina that have just started programs or are in co-op with other schools. This is Smoky Valleys first year and Solomon High School is going to St. John’s Military’s. This is also the first year for Bennington, don’t know if they have started a program or are going to Minneapolis.

Good luck to these schools this season. With all the talk about schools cutting “this and that” it is good to see these schools adding wrestling.

Cody Garvin wrestled last year for Columbus in 4A until regionals, then wrestled for Baxter Springs at 3-2-1A State and placed 3rd.

Garvin, a talented athlete, certainly benefits from the outstanding Columbus coaching staff and program.

Nickerson-South Hutchinson USD 309 OKs combining wrestling squad with Haven's

By Dave Stephens

Nickerson High School's wrestling team will have to go more than the extra mile to pin its opponents this season.

In an agreement with Haven USD 312, Nickerson-South Hutchinson USD 309 approved a cooperative agreement to allow wrestlers from the two schools to merge their teams. The measure comes at a time when Nickerson's wrestling team has only four members and no coach.

Details of the plan still have to be ironed out between the two administrations, but with wrestling practice scheduled to begin next week, USD 309 Superintendent Jerry Burch and Nickerson Principal Kevin Abbott urged the board to move quickly.

"We need to provide something for the young men in our district who want to wrestle," Burch said.

Board member Lori Dohrmann questioned part of the agreement suggesting USD 312 would receive all gate receipts from home meets - to be held in the Haven school district. Abbott, however, said the agreement was fairly standard.

"We're the ones that have the problem; they don't need to let us join," Abbott said. "It's obvious that some sort of financial obligation is probably not out of the question."

The question that does remain to be settled, Burch said, is how the four students from Nickerson will be transported to Haven for practice each day. Options speculated on included having the district transport the students in a school-owned vehicle, having the students or parents transport themselves, or develop some kind of mileage reimbursement program.

"I think part of the biggest issue we have is that three of the boys are just freshmen," Burch said, implying they would not be able to drive themselves to practice.

Salyer, while we appreciate the articles and stuff, don't you have a job or anything?

I have to agree!!! It isn't so bad, but can't anyone get online and read this for themselves??

Maybe just give the link and be done with it. Just like your previews and box scores. Anyone who loves wrestling knows how to buy a paper or knows to long on and read it there.

On well, at least wrestling is getting written about, it's just time consuming to read it twice!!
