District 1 also is, because I assume they are communicating equally well in all facets surrounding the District 1 Tournament, the only district that doesn't have Middle School State weigh in info on the Middle School flier. This is a pretty BIG deal as the weights for Heartland Duals are not the same as our state sanctioned weights and as it was predetermined by some mysterious, inner circle, secret cabal in District 1 that we were going to have the district championship on the day before the Middle School Heartland Qualifier I'd like to know when my kid can weigh if he can only gain 2 pounds after a hard cut or has to wrestle 3 pounds light in the district tournament to make weight later that morning for middle school state etc C'mon D1 get the info where it needs to go, you can't undo the poor decisions that have been made but you can mitigate the damage by making the right decisions going forward

Couldn't agree more....Here is the response that I recieved when I checked into this...

We have never given allowance. They must make weight in April with no allowance.

Subject: RE: Middle School State

Ok so just that we are clear, wrestlers have to make weight Friday night for Subs or Districts in our case and then maintain throughout the night without rehydrating before a qualifying tournament for the state series w/o any allowances ?
Please confirm.

which is all true--typically the middle school weigh in is held at SUBDISTRICTS in the AM to meet the 24 hour requirement, in D1 and D2's case this go round it will be held at the district tournament in D2's case at 0830, for D1 the flier says TBD. So you could have a 115# westler trying to stay under 117# for middle school or a 120#/125# wrestler who wants to go 117# for heartland having to wrestle light for districts at least until they have weighed in probably sometime after their first match at districts. I just want to be able to make an informed decision to determine what my wrestler has the ability to do and not affect his district performance

It could make kids to chose to not cut weight (Not a bad option), chose which "State" tournament is the real deal, or just chose one or the other, etc

It could also encourage kids to enter the D3 west sub at the same location as the middle school state tournament too Shawn. I'm really considering this option just to prove a point.

Smokey you really should change your tag to Smokin'Cabin because you clearly are...as far as I know they BOTH are the real deal in the sense that one is the culmination of the youth season and the other is an opportunity to represent Kansas at a national competition and because the weight classes are not the same as our state's there are decisions that need be made to do that the best you can for the individual competitor and ultimately for the state teams??????????? and I can't make the choices I need to make CAUSE I DON"T HAVE THE INFORMATION THE CHOICES ARE BASED ON!

PS now there is an idea Creach except we don't want to have to make weight AGAIN on the 18th

Nick,

I am very aware of the difference between duals and this state and that state tournament. One is Kansas USA Wrestling Folkstyle State Tournament -
The other helps pick teams, raise money (but not enough) lots of it to travel out of state for a small percentage of the kids in that age group with some swag or fancy stuff that does not get reused. We have had some kids from our club participate in these events - I do not think it is the best use of our state funds.
I think we can get a bigger bang for our buck and help more kids develop using other methods. So call me what you want. We have people on our board out there promoting other states and their other special interests, and that is 100 percent fact and it is 100 percent wrong. Some think their actions are untouchable and they can run off many people who put in hundreds/thousands as a group of hours of volunteer time and many other financial donors who help your children and thousands of other kids -you can scold me all you want but there are many of the pieces of the puzzle you need to still learn. And you will learn them soon enough.

Sean

We will run a weigh in at D1 district for MS State that is not an issue.

No one has asked me to host a weigh in at the district tournament or I would have been glad to offer that up.

I truly enjoy watching everyone stand back and throw stones at our own district...While not one person would step up and be the assistant director to help Joe out!

Per the flyer the MS State starts at 9 AM so you would officially need to start the weigh in process after 9 AM to make the 24 hr rule...but who would want to throw stones at a volunteer!

If you are so worried about your kid why would you have him make a "hard cut" at such a young age? People like you may be the reason there are rules in place to stop the hard cuts. Do we need to start hydration testing in kids wrestling now?

Encouraging the "hard cut", putting high level tournaments back to back on the same weekend, 150 matches in 3 or 4 months, go for it, some kids might get 3 or 4 seasons in 1 year but many of them may not ever get to year 2. Things that make you go Hum. Could this thinking have any impact on lower numbers we are seeing at the high school level?
