Mlekus had a great state tournament and was winning that match, so I do not want to discredit him. Mullin stayed in the match and committed to a big move and it worked for him.

In 4A 160lbs. Mlekus was in total control of the match, and came up short because of one mistake! If I was doing the rankings I would have a hard time not ranking Mlekus ahead of Mullin.

At fist I wasn't going to respond to this, but then I figured what kind of dad wouldn't defend his son's honor (if it even needs defended.) Coach Pigorsch probably covered it already. First thing is Mlekus is a stud and I'm not takin anything away from him. The Gorillas gotta be excited to have him on the football field next year. As far as the better wrestler winning, I think BigPin's Belicheck quote pretty much states the case (not to be interpreted that I'm calling Mlekus a loser, I've already made that clear). Fact is two great wrestlers went at it in a close match and one found a way to win it in the end. Again, nothing to short Brandon, but with Hunter's record, quality of opponents and the final score, I'm not going to let anyone suggest it was a fluke and the best wrestler didn't win. Dusty Mullin

No need to defend you Son, he is obviously a stud and the STATE CHAMP! I did not mean to demean his accomplishment. It was not a fluke....He fought hard, never gave up, and came away with the win! I was simply stating that after watching the match and talking to several people I felt Mlekus was in control of the entire match except for 30 seconds or so.

Hey Chief, I was wondering where Tyler Shannon from Ark City was on the list for 285? I think he beat Eldon from Manhattan but lost to Auker of Norton at Newton this year. Lost to Hutchinson in the state finals at 5A state.

It's a good question. He had 10 losses. Six to out of state guys and lost to #6 Auker and to #1 Hutchison. He also lost to unranked Stroble and unranked Tannahill, both tough kids. He has that one win against ranked Picou. This division was crazy to rank. He ended up #13 on my list, but had a great state tournament and season.

So a kid that is second best in 5A at 220, is #1 all class rankings?!?!?! Interesting. Please don't try to explain your logic as there is none.

After much thought at 220, I have changed the ranking. #1 and #3 will hopefully wrestle at the Senior Dual.

Thanks for all the input...

Hunter and Brandon neither one will forget that match any time soon. If they wrestled again it might be different outcome, but the history books have been written. Brandon will compete in the Battle of the Bad All-Star dual at NEO, and will probably retire the head gear and shoes forever. Both wrestlers will move on to bigger and better things for sure. As Brandon's uncle and coach for many years (in all sports), I can tell you that he makes no excuses, for the outcome of that match, or any game. That match is definitely one that he would like to have back (perhaps a second chance at Luellen too), but that isn't how Life works. He has had an excellent wrestling career, one that most can only dream of, and I have had the pleasure to witness most every match. I want to wish Hunter the best of luck at Western St., and can't wait to watch Brandon grow and play as a Gorilla!

Let's talk 113...

1. West - State champ. Beat Rylant 2x.
2. Minor - State champ. Beat Podlena 3X. Lost to Burgoon.
3. Rylant - 1-1 with Beitz. Beat Burgoon, who beat Minor 12-6.
4. Podlena - Beat Holt, Burgoon and Grijalva.
5. Holt - State champ. Beat Harris. Toughest schedule.
6. Burgoon - Here is where we disagree. Drew lost to West, Rylant and Podlena. He went 1-1 v Grijalva, beat Minor 12-6, beat Brockman, Robinson, Stickelman, Williams and Strait. The kid earned this position.
7. Harris - State Champ. Beat Beitz 2x. Lost to Holt. His schedule kept him from climbing higher.
8. Beitz - Went 1-1 with Rylant. Lost to Harris and two 120 losses that were both close with tough guys. Beat Dennison, Williams, Totty 2x and Whitson. I could very well see him higher. these 6,7 and 8 were very close.

After the top 5 declined, Drew Burgoon has accepted an invitation to join our All-Class dual team in Denver. The invite is out now to Harris. That could help clear the issue.
