If your going to show up for a dual with only 6 wrestlers, you should at least have the decency to pay for everyone's admission. No one wants to watch 1/2 a dual. I sure wouldn't enjoy a basketball game where it was 3 on 5. Piss Poor Pathetic. I'm sure Smokeycabin will say great job, Keep plugging away.

It is great having certain Kansas USA members associated with the board sending positive messages to our adult and youth members, clubs, high schools and colleges, - Keep plugging away with that message - I am not going to promote that type of philosophy. If it doesn't help me, my kids, talented wrestlers or WE ARE THE GREATEST team mentality - sorry that is not growing the sport. Your language is less than desirable - but keep it up - the results continue to come in.

My language is less than desirable? I'm sorry, my language was an honest reaction to a less than desirable performance or lack there of. You praising sub par performanc is embarrassing.

Its cute you think I'm bashing them. I'm setting expectations. Having a full roster is not too high of an expectation. Labette only had 5 last dual against Cowley. Unacceptable as well. By accepting this as normal you are part of the problem. Being a first year program is no excuses, Cowley is first year and had a full roster.

Oh Beeson, I know it's not your style, but sometimes it's okay to keep your thoughts to yourself. I never said it was acceptable. And I'm definitely not part of any problem that you are speaking of. I've put plenty of time into this sport. More time than you have anyway. That's not even debatable.

Props to Cowley for fielding a full roster as well.

I am not going to say anything profound here, but merely pointing out a few facts that stick out to me:

There are multiple reasons that there may be opens on a roster--usually injury would be the primary reason. Secondly, our state happens to be in the midst of an influenza outbreak, which is working its way through communities and college campuses as well. Wrestlers are not immune to influenza nor injuries as we all are aware. Those things happen--not ideal, but it is life. Some of the wrestlers compete while injured or working their way back from being sick as well to be able to field the roster spots to avoid having an open. I appreciate that a coach is looking out for the well being of an athlete even when that may ultimately mean leaving an open spot.

There is a new coach who inherited the program in Mid-November. Perhaps we should provide an allowance to build this program versus automatically criticizing. It is easy to point fingers and be critical when one does not have all of the facts involved in decision making. Would it be great to have multiple wrestlers at every weight class--sure. The new coach is working hard to do just that. Kudos to Cowley for fielding all spots. That is great, and they have a great start on their program. I look forward to watching them compete in the future alongside Cloud as they build their program as well.

I don't post because I have watched this forum for many, many years and have witnessed the verbal abuse that gets thrown about when someone offers a comment, which made me second guess replying. However, today, I felt compelled to stick up for a program that is working hard to build something.

100% agree that sickness and injury can play their part at times. However when Cloud wrestled Cowley in the first dual Jan 8th there were 3 open weights. At the Kansas Cup only 3 wrestlers competed. I only point out Cloud County because of the recent Dual. Colby and Labette are fielding half teams as well.

Barton, Cowley, Fort Hays, Newman, Pratt, and many other state schools are doing a great job filling rosters. Every weight may not be a world beater, but they go out and compete. They give fans a reason to fill the seats.

The AD should have fired the old guy before school started as he had a DUI and could have went a different route.

I think Cody Cole will do a great job, but I have coached at the JUCO level. Those athletic directors want 35-40 in numbers, but the kids flake out fast because a majority were coddled. I was asked to wake up kids at Neosho...hell with that, I recruited enough that if a star didn't show up a hard working kid that may not be that great of a wrestler could come to the front. I think Cloud will do well in the future as it is in a great area of the team. Heck there was one year where 4 state championship teams in the same year were within an hour of Concordia, KS.

National qualifying is based on numbers at qualifiers too (or used to be)....it's based on percentage of total that show up to the qualifier...every year you see some team weigh in a random person that can't wrestle due to injury to get percentage up to qualify to nationals. I have seen teams bring random non rostered kids to regionals. It's bad enough Ark Baptist can't field half a team in the region...they even lost hosting abilities this year because of that. I think there should be a penalty on qualifying directed towards the teams that can't get it together as it effects the entire region for qualifiers...then again NEO just puts 10 in the finals every year and don't have to worry about wildcards, so as long as Joe Renfro is in the region...it won't matter how many numbers any Kansas team brings to the tournament.

Yes, that was just to make it a close dual. Still beat the #5 team.

In seriousness, they were on the road and it was the last dual. I doubt they carry extras for sickness or injury. Not sure, they are definitely not habitual offenders.

They had at least one guy get banged up pretty bad in the dual the night before (or two nights before on the road). Another had the flu from my understanding. They lost to #16, but then beat #5. They were on the road with I think with 11 or 12 guys, but they had extras at 97 and hwt. This week they are at Kearney and I will be shocked if they don't have a full line-up.
