Can someone tell me why, if we are looking for the “best” kids to represent Kansas in Iowa every year...why can’t we release a wrestler list the week before registration ends?

If it’s public, the best kids know where to go and spread out. The result is a better top 6.

Somehow, for some odd reason, it’s a big secret. I dont get it. Don’t we want the best kids representing Kansas in Iowa next month?!?

Looking forward to watching a bunch of kids bunch up and eliminate each other in Hutch on Sunday...when all we have to do is make it public. These kids know who they can and can’t beat. It’s not about running—it’s about making sense of what would be our best 6 lineups.

That’s my take.

While I agree for the most part, there is also a part of me that says it won't make a world of difference. Kids weigh what they weigh, and with the tourney being over a month out from the qualifier, they are hesitant to make a weight cut now not knowing how much heavier they MAY be in a month. Coaches/dads would still need to communicate weights to each other, because if we release the list, and stud 1 and stud 2 are both at 80 lbs, so they both cut to 75, leaving 80 with our 3rd best kid and 75 has a second team kid that should be a first team kid.

What I believe affects our "quality" of teams more than not having a "who's going where" pow wow, is getting our best kids to even go. And this has been going on since my older son was in school. We have a bundle of our KS studs not participating.

We have to get the duals moved up. Word has it that several studs from KS won't be doing MS state because they want to do FS GR sooner. Going into the FS GR room in the middle of April, after the FSGR clubs have shown and broken down most of their technique, is not fair for the FS GR coaches having to reteach it all to the Elem and MS kids, those late arrivals are going to be playing catch up also. We need to get Iowa Folkstyle Nationals moved up a week, and we need to get the duals moved up 2 weeks.

My two cents worth......

Doug I fully agree we have to get the duals moved up. In western Kansas clubs die out on Monday morning after kids state is over. I am then left searching for partners within a 2 hour radius for an entire month. So my son won't get rusty. So instead of being at our peak when we are wrestling some of the nations best wrestlers...we are starting to get rusty. I understand this is a different situation in bigger cities. If moved up....I couldn't agree more. Move Folkstyle nationals up as well. I would hate to see duals moved up 2 weeks, and land on top of folkstyle nationals. Kids would have to make a difficult decision if that happened.

There has been some discussion of moving the duals up one week - I hope it happens

Someone smarter than me maybe could tell me what Folkstyle nationals would be interfering with if it moved up a week. It should actually help them, then it would be on a different weekend than the Virginia HS nationals. If it would be moved up one week, we could move up Duals two weeks. Of course I'm sure both tourneys aren't waking up every morning wondering what they can do to help KS wrestling, but I think it would help their numbers.

I fully agree it would help their numbers and agree about Virginia Nationals (Which they also have middle school). For the area (Nebraska and Kansas) the Midwest classic may take a big hit if the duals were moved up two weeks. In my dream world it would go. 3rd week of March Midwest classic. 4th week of March USA Folkstyle Nationals. 1st week April Heartland Duals.

I still haven't heard from anyone who wants to answer why the Wrestler List is such a secret for these events....

Why are wrestler lists a secret for any event is the real question.
