While I agree for the most part, there is also a part of me that says it won't make a world of difference. Kids weigh what they weigh, and with the tourney being over a month out from the qualifier, they are hesitant to make a weight cut now not knowing how much heavier they MAY be in a month. Coaches/dads would still need to communicate weights to each other, because if we release the list, and stud 1 and stud 2 are both at 80 lbs, so they both cut to 75, leaving 80 with our 3rd best kid and 75 has a second team kid that should be a first team kid.
What I believe affects our "quality" of teams more than not having a "who's going where" pow wow, is getting our best kids to even go. And this has been going on since my older son was in school. We have a bundle of our KS studs not participating.
We have to get the duals moved up. Word has it that several studs from KS won't be doing MS state because they want to do FS GR sooner. Going into the FS GR room in the middle of April, after the FSGR clubs have shown and broken down most of their technique, is not fair for the FS GR coaches having to reteach it all to the Elem and MS kids, those late arrivals are going to be playing catch up also. We need to get Iowa Folkstyle Nationals moved up a week, and we need to get the duals moved up 2 weeks.
My two cents worth......
