Chase Frank from Scott City looks pretty good this year, but you're right, it's too close to call until state actually gets here.

From what I watched of the Rose Hill kid Ponce, I would throw him in the mix also. Looks to be a great weight class like most of the 4A weight classes.

johnston has lost twice..to metcalf and strawn..he lost to metcal 11-6 after trying a deperation move when it was 6-6..he was beating strawn 6-0 before suffering a stinger like thing..and lost 10-8 in OT..he later pinned metcalf at a dual..he beat ponce out of regionals last year

I have seen several of these kids. my pick is Taplin, he seems the most comfortable on the mat, from start to finish and seldom looses his composure. I pick Buck for runner-up despite a couple of previous close losses.

john or those the wrestlers you think will place.
i agree with the first three placing. but fitzgerald, sharpe and strawn are on the bubble. i think you have to look at metcalf, johnston. and the other placer is up for grabs. strawn is just a freshman and beleive me. at that heavy of a weight the upper classmen will step it up. strawn will have to wrestle outstanding to place.

I admire Buck and have for a couple of years. I am a huge Buck fan but he is not going to win state scoring only 1 point escapes in tough matches. I know he is good on his feet but I have seen him lose some big TD too. He is going to have to be sharper on his feet.

yeah speaking from the past no matter what a freshman does the whole season it all can change at state, but there are a few exceptions to that just like anything else. some freshman might think "i have been to kids state a ton of times how can this be any different?" high school state is like kids tulsa! if you ask me.

i have been watching ross taplin for a lot of years and he may not match up with strength or even talent of all the others, but i have seen him come back and beat some good kids. he has a lot of raw determination and he won't quit. don't be suprised if he wins, even though he is young.

No one mentioned Bobby Krause from nickerson-- saw him at clearwater and was very imressed with the way he spanked sutton-kern of concordia. At that time he was undefeated, and very impressive. Also, chase frank beat buck by 1 at Garden city and someone beat Ponce at the Rose Hill tourney
