We had a club approach us for our Salt City Rumble tournament this coming weekend, stating if we had a 6u girls division one of their wrestlers would rather be in that than in the boys novice division, so it got me thinking. Why is 9u typically the youngest girls division? Surely there are plenty of girls that would fit in the 6u or 7u criteria to fill brackets or am I wrong & there just aren't enough girls that young just yet? I know the girls division has grown quite a bit this year, so we would be open to having a younger division if there was a need for it.

I wish more tournaments did have 6U or 7U girls. We have actually entered our 6 and under girl in 6U boys rather than 9U girls. I think originally this was probably due to lack of girl competitors. But you see alot of 6U and 8U girls every week now.

I agree, I see a lot of girls in the 6u or 8u division at tournaments. I know that it's a big age gap between a 6u & a 9u girl. I hate limiting the girls to feeling like they have to wrestle boys only to be at the same age level.

My daughter is 5, and has been wrestling 9U. By what I have been seeing at tournaments with the girls divisions, I really think they would have quite a few 6U girls.

For our Salt City Rumble tournament this weekend we have the age/weights to accommodate & split the younger group up into 2 divisions. It will now be 6u/7u & 8u/9u girls, so the little girls won't have to have up to a 4 year age gap. We're excited to be able to make this happen!
