Notes: On proposal 1: USAWKS has never in its history emphasized the team championship aspect of the Folkstyle State tournament. It has just existed, and while the proposal does bring forth some good points about club size and opportunity, at its core the organization is about uplifting every individual to make them their best, the team part of it is a benefit that is realized simply by being a part of their respective teams.

On proposal 2: The board is very adamant about not only NOT eliminating the HS division, but actually expanding the tournament to include another age group as well. It is their belief that all age groups should be permitted to compete, and that we give every competitor every opportunity we can to complete. Specifically within the HS division, one of the more common lines of thought is that high schoolers had their chance with the HS State tournament, but the simple reality is not every wrestler can make a varsity spot and thus even a chance to wrestle at the HS state tournament. They might however be good enough to qualify and perhaps even win a Kids State Tournament. We now have the opportunity to run the State Folkstyle tournament in such an efficient manner that we can accommodate even larger numbers of competitors of both genders, but still get done at really decent times each day of the competition.

On proposal 3: This was covered by a similar proposal submitted by Olathe East Wrestling Club, in the Prop 6 thread, and the conclusion was the same with this as it was with that.

On proposal 4: The board chose not to vote for this proposal because at this time, USAWKS does not run the Heartland qualifier and there is not presently any desire to take that on as an Executive Board, therefore we cannot tell the individuals currently handling that, they can't do what they have been doing up to this point, which is running their qualifier tournament to determine entrants.

1. Propose a Classification System for the USAWKS State Championships. AAA, AA and A. These classifications would be defined by how many USA carded kids each team has at the time of the State Tournament. If a team has 100+ carded kids they would be classified as a AAA. If a team has 50+ kids they would be classified as a AA and if a team has less than 50 carded kids they would be classified as an A.

This would give the smaller teams an opportunity to win a Team State Championship. As we all know the winner every single year is the team that brings the most kids to the dance. I believe giving the smaller towns/clubs a chance would increase competition and grow our sport.

2. Eliminate HS division all together at the USAWKS District and State tournaments. This will promote the HS kids to attend the National Level events (where they should be competing to get prepared for college wrestling). Our youth events are growing rapidly and we could use the space for the youth events.

3. I think we should limit the number of coaches at the USAWKS State tournament to allow more space on the floor. It is so easy to get a Bronze Certification and along with that they gain access to the floor. We should propose a bylaw that states each team is allowed so many coaches per wrestlers.

4. I'd like to propose that USAWKS determines the Elementary and Middle School Heartland Dual teams differently. The current format is not great timing as many kids won't attend the Dual Qualifier due to the fact that the State Finals are the following week. So we aren't getting our best kids on our Dual Teams. The point of the Heartland Dual is to promote the sport with Kansas' best kids .... not to field 5 avg teams to give opportunities. Let's become competitive and eliminate the Heartland Dual Qualifier and appoint someone to determine the best kids based on results at high level events.

These are just a few of the suggestions I currently have. I will have more I'm certain.
