I noticed that a lot more people respond in the High School section than in the Women section so that is why I'm posting here instead of in the women section. I would just like to know where people stand on the issue of girls wrestling in high school. I know that in the past there have been some girls that wrestled in High School on the varsity teams and they were pretty good, (eg Brooke Bogren - first girl in state tourn). Who are some of the girls you all know that have wrestled in High School on varsity and do you agree with it or not?

there's a girl that wrestles for LHS, i don't think she's varsity, but I wish she would've pinned Jeb at the Ottowa duals. And I don't have a problem with chick wrestling as long as it's done in bikini's and a mud ring, or a tub of jello(or pudding...mmmmmm pudding).

We have two girls wrestling for our team. I think it's awesome. I would if I could. Anyway, one wrestled for one of the women's teams and was ranked at something like 5th in the Nation at her weight. She's not at varsity, not this year at least. Hopefully she will be next year.

i understand why the girls got out to wrestle (b/c they love the sport) but i dont totally agree that they should be wrestling guys...if i were a guy i would find it really awkward wrestling a girl...but then again those girls who kick but make the guys they beat feel like crap because they just got beat by a girl..so it can go both ways.
if you don't like something change it, if you can't change it, change your attitude

There's Sarah Hilliard from Freestate in Lawrence, Nicole Husted from Desoto, I'm the LHS wrestler, and I know there's a girl on the SMNW team this year. I heard somewhere that there were around 50 or so girls on highschool teams in Kansas this year.

I knew a pretty good wrestler who took second in the state a few years ago who wrestled Brooke earlier in his career and lost. He was kind of a shy kid anyway and his confidence really took a hit for a couple of weeks he couldn't beat anyone. I do support girls right to compete.

I believe Sabetha had a gal quite a few years back by the name Cheryl Meier (I believe that was her name), who I was told shattered a guy's entire arm when he posted his arm stiff and she slammed him down...everything from his hand to his shoulder went to jello.

in a perfect world girls could wrestle just girls. throw out the akwardness of it, overall its not really that fair becuase a male's body and a female's body are different. a girl at 160 probably wont be as strong as a guy at 160 so it makes it difficult to compete.(yes, i am well aware there are exceptions and some girls can compete well against guys, i'm just saying on the whole) it would be nice if there were enough girls involved in wrestling to have 2 seperate teams for them. however, the reality of it is, there isnt...

this is in reply to VikesManager05. There was a girl on the SMNW JV team for a while, I wrestled her once when they combined 103 and 112 at a tournament, but I heard she did something to her knee about mid-season and had to sit out. I'm not sure what her name is.

Lexi Bertsch was the freshman who wrestled 112 JV for SMNW. Her brother Devin was a sophomore who wrestled JV and some varsity at 135. Lexi did hurt her knee midway through the season. Both are hard workers and have been very good additions to our team. I believe their father wrestled in Iowa somewhere. Randy Hill

I think girls wrestling is fine, just like girls that like to play football. Its kinda hard to make it seperate from guys wrestling because there's simply not enough interest to fill an entire roster. I think its fine that you have some girls on your roster if they earn a spot.
Never count us out!

I have no problem with girls wrestling in high school. Many have done it with a fair amount of success. In fact, Chris Jennings recently became the first girl ever to place at the state tournament, finishing 2nd in 6a 215.

So this kid is putting on his shoes right, and his mom says, honey you're putting your shoes on the wrong feet, and the little kid says, no mom these are my feet

No guys, I think you are mistaken. From what he says, Nigel placed long before Jhris did. *Swish* (Count it!)
