I'm pretty sure that it won't happen because he couldn't challenge me himself, so that's that. I really just challenged all of you as a joke, thinking that no one would accept. This is alright though, because wrestling is fun and I like to meet new people. I would just like to say once more, that had any of you seen the matches, you would realize that I won pretty easily in all three, and that I'll forever be 3-0 against Ryan Sponsel.

I am interested to hear from Chris and LancerM as to what needs to be done to improve the KU club team. The current group working to bring NCAA Division I wrestling to Kansas believes that we need to help improve the situation for the KU club team along with the KSU club team. There seems to be a consensus that the KSU club team is ahead of the KU club team. What do you think could be done to improve the KU team since you both go to school there and have participated on it? You could send me an e-mail if you prefer.

Vince and crew,
I think we definitely need to focus on establishing the viability and respectability of the KU NWCA wrestling club. I think as a whole we can throw some support and guidance to the clubs at K-State and KU and even look to establishing others say at Washburn, Pitt State or Emporia to name a few. We have enough wrestlers and support in all those areas to do that.

I think we sometimes mentally let USAWKS stop at the high school level without considering making the most of ANY opportunity for our kids to continue participation. If the the KU club is shaky, someone is letting it be that way, what can we do as a group to help resolve that?

I have not been that involved in the high school forum, mostly on the issue to bring NCAA Division I wrestling to Kansas. Consequently I am not that aware of the problems that you are referring to with the individuals. I guess the way I am thinking about it now though is a couple of things. First I am glad that I did not have this internet availability in the early 70's when I was about 20. It would not have been good for me at my maturity level at that time. I think young men around that age are certainly worth saving and will mature. I think these young men deserve a chance to become contributing members of the wrestling Kansas community. At a certain point in life we come to the realization that it is time to start giving back to the community supporting us as we grew up. The sooner we realize it the better it is for us and the community. I guess what I am saying is that I have no reason to give up on these young men. I think it would be good for all our young high school wrestlers to give back and become contributing members of the wrestling community. That is how they can best pay back all those people who helped them along in their wrestling careers. The other thing is that I truly believe it is very important to have the entire Kansas wrestling community to put aside differences that we may have over small matters and unite to make wrestling grow in Kansas.

Very good to hear from you on this. Here are some of my thoughts on your post. In talking with the KU Club president at our group meeting, it appeared that finances for the club were a problem. We need to help with that. I think they received less than $300 from the university last year. They also had problems getting access to a practice facility. We might need to find some help in finding a facility in the Lawrence area (Cokeley's facility is not that far from Lawrence if an alternative in Lawrence cannot be worked out. Lawrence High is very close to campus though). I am not sure they have a coach. We might need to find volunteers in that capacity if they do not have one. We need to have high school coaches promote the club participation to their graduating seniors. We need to promote their meets on this forum and maybe try to boost some attendance on any local meets they might have. Perhaps getting a dual in KC, Topeka or Wichita between the KU club and the KSU club might work to build some attendance and increased interest in these clubs. It could also build some interest for future participation with high school wrestlers in those cities. Those are some of my initial thoughts on the KU club. I think some of these things would be applicable to the KSU club or any of the other colleges that you mentioned.

Well that's a little arrogant, don't you think? The fact that we like to joke and have fun over light issues does not mean that we aren't serious when it comes to wrestling or furthering it along in Kansas. Obviously both of us had a passion for the sport since we did well in high school, and obviously that passion still remains since we at least attempted to enjoy it in college. Heck, Jhris and I have even considered trying to run the club, but as of right now Nathan Hartshorne does that and more power to him.

So in other words, get over yourself. You're no better than anyone else on this forum so don't try to act like it.

I think BOS is worthless in the effort to bring KU wrestling to life and he is also worthless when it comes to making comments on this board about me, seeing that he doesn't know me. However, Huskerfan, I do have many ideas for improvement. The club needs a new president, and that's very simple. I think that Nathan is a good guy, but the way he runs it is a half-serious type of way that doesn't allow much time for actual practice. I joke around at practice, but for me to drill stand-ups for more than a few minutes at a practice is pretty pointless seeing that I don't like standing up, and I already learned it the first day I started wrestling. If you would like more ideas from me you can private message me and I can tell you a few things that could be worked on. As for BOS, you obviously don't know anything about me, because I take my wrestling seriously, we just haven't had any topics about actual wrestling. It is the off season as well, so I think that we're allowed to have a little fun. I am also interested in what BOS considers a good contribution to wrestling constitutes? I know that with me being back, the forum is more alive and more people have the chance to read topics that I post under, because I shake things up a bit. Is that not good? I would also like to point out that I wrestled for the club, so I have a few things to say unlike you. As far as my other contributions, I'm a pretty likable guy when it comes to little kids basically because I'm huge and they are cool with that. So if me getting people to read these topics and me helping kids get more into a sport that I'm pretty good as isn't a contribution, you can let me know what is.

billy_mcjackson_ripjc and Lancer, a lot has been said lately about getting things underway at KU and/or other Kansas D1 colleges. From your perspective what could the rest of us outside of the circle do to help get this in place, and if in place, would either of you take advantage of the opportunity. What I mean is, do you really want D1 wrestling at KU and do you prefer club or college wrestling? Not trying to slam here, an honest question. I think that some assume that everyone at the club level would want to have a collegiate team, I don't know if that is true. I am especially interested in your thoughts though regarding what to do to get KU to consider D1 wrestling. Also, are there ways that we could help with additional funding for the program. Thanks for the advice.

Well there isn't much I can say to any of that. Of course I wish that KU had a D-1 team. Of course I wish I could be part of it. Would I be able to wrestle on this team? Who knows. I would love to be a huge part of this, but I don't know what to say to the athletic directors remarks about it not being in the near future. I know that everyone on the club team isn't what you would call D-1 talent at KU, but if there were a team I know that the demand for good wrestlers in Kansas is high enough to produce a solid team.

I must admit, I don't recall watching you wrestle, but from what I have heard, you would have a chance at the team if one developed. Good luck in whatever you do and know that there are those of us out here that believes we should be supporting the school D-1 programs and that starts with supporting the clubs.

If there is a way to get money and build a team and get a coach and everything, I would be more than happy to wrestle for KU or do anything to make it happen. Believe me, it sucks watching kids you tech-fall win state titles, or kids you major for that matter. Right Sponsel...

I too would love to have a D-1 team at KU and I would love to compete for a spot on its team. I've only wrestled since my freshman year of high school, but I have gotten significantly better each year and would look forward to furthering myself on the collegiate level. As it is right now, the club is not going to serve any purpose in furthering my wrestling ability because of the way it is run. I will email you with more of my thoughts about it Mike, as well as you Vince, when I get off of work. I'm wasting enough time as it is.
