Andover Middle School is looking for a head coach and an assistant coach. There is the possibility of movement to coaching duties at Andover High School in a few years. We would like for at least one of the positions to be filled by a teacher, but would consider rule 10 coaches. Teaching positions available (according to district website): 7th Language Arts, 8th Language Arts, 6th and 8th Social Studies, Art.
If interested contact me via email at wilburm@usd385.org

Rule 10-coach who is not a teacher. Must be supervised by certified district employee until they become an "unsupervised aide."
Art. 3: Member schools may apply to the KSHSAA Executive Board for permission to use individuals who are not certified as an aide in any activity sponsored by the KSHSAA. Application (Form A) shall not be made prior to May 1 preceding the school year for which the aide is to be employed. The application must meet all of the following conditions: a. Evidence of need is verified by the school. b. Evidence must be presented to affirm that the position was required to maintain the existence of the program and/or necessary to maintain an adequate safety level. c. The district must ensure an in-service program will be satisfactorily completed by the coaches/directors aides. The program could include the following facets: (1) Orientation to the local community. (2) Rules of the activity. (3) Techniques of coaching/directing a particular activity (could be waived in lieu of college credit hours). (4) For athletic activities — CPR, emergency treatment, and first aid. Art. 4: Approval of an aide is for the season of the activity as approved for that school year. a. A supervised aide may not supervise students during interscholastic competition without the presence of a certified staff member or an unsupervised aide..a. b. An unsupervised aide may supervise/coach students in practice or competition without the presence of a certified staff member.

Come on fellas. We pay fairly well. I've had two personal replies, both of which have been given to the middle school. Below is the link to the district homepage. The high school is hiring also. The stint at the middle school might only be for a year as my assistant might be willing to trade coaching positions to the middle school after a year. http://www.usd385.org/ Coach Wilbur

For anyone interested. Andover is a great place to coach. Lots of kids out in the middle school 20-30 kids. The highschool coaches are great people to work with and they are working on building a very successful program. Was a great place to coach.

If I can speak for Jared. He left because he felt a higher calling. Jared was a very valued member of the staff. Not only did he coach the middle school kids, but he helped with the high school as well. Jared was a rule-10 coach that was just finishing at Butler. BUT, he has a sense of duty, dedication, and honor that led him to apply to the ROTC program at K-state. He was recently accepted into the program. It was not an easy decision for him to make, to leave our team, but one I fully supported. He will join a long list of previous wrestlers and fine men that make us proud by serving us as protectors of our nation.

I would apply in a heartbeat, but alas my heart isn't healthy right now and the doctor won't let me work.

sportsfan02 is correct. I can't tell you how excited I was to have him on our team. He did an excellent job building interest in the program in just the 2 years he was here. I'd love to get someone as excited about the sport as him. I've come to find out over the last few days that I don't have much say in who will be hired next. I've forwarded a few good names, but no action on them. Little frustrating to me, but I'm just a coach. What do I know?

Don't forget guys. There is still a great growing program in need of some good coaches. If the administration isn't listening to coach Wilbur, I would say to email the AD directly if your interested. Dwight Hemmerling hemmerld@usd385.org. And also still e-mail coach Wilbur.
And Pups4Ever (Shaw) only that memory would still be in your mind from our high school days. We did have some good times though.

The reason for Hat Town is I am an old man going back to school to get learnt! Kind of like Rodney Dangerfield in BACK TO SCHOOL.
