According to KSHSAA rules, every wrestler must certify on or before Jan. 14. If you've made your certification weight already — during a regular weigh-in — then you're fine. If not, you have to certify in time for your school's last weigh-in prior to Jan. 14.

If you certify at 125lbs. do you have to make 125lbs. everytime after or can you go back up to 130lbs. and then drop down again?
I am not quite sure what the rule is!

To wrestle at 125 at Regionals, half of your weign-ins for the season have to be at 125. You can weigh-in from time to time at 130, provided it's not more than half.

I have talked to several people that say you cannot break weight after certification! I understand that you can make weight at the lower weight and wrestle up but the last statement says that you can go up after certification as long as half your weigh ins are at the lower weight.

Will someone with some credibility please clear this up?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

You CAN go up one weight class without breaking certification, but NOT down any. For example: a 125 pound wrestler can wrestle at 130, but NOT at 119. If the wrestler wrestles 135, then he breaks certification and now can go no lower than 130 which would be their new certification weight. Of course you get 2 pounds every meet after the 16th, which means that 125 pounder is really a 127 pounder. AND if that wrestler wants to wrestle 125 at regionals, then half their year weigh-ins must be at the 125 class.

make sense?

I do believe bigkneepads #2 (No way associated with me) is quite correct on this interesting topic.

If you certify at 130lbs. you can't go down to 125lbs. for regionals(no brainer)but I don't think you can wrestle up a weight class unless you make weight at the lower of the two, I think that is what they consider breaking. I think in order to wrestler at 125lbs. at regionals you have to make 125lbs.(127lbs with the 2lbs. allowance) every time.

Does anyone else know for sure?

Takedown42 has it right. After you certify, you have to make your certified weight half of the time. It use to be that even if you wrestle up, you had to weigh at your certified weight, but not anymore. If you weigh in two weights up then you break certification.

You have to certify on or before January 15th. You can weigh in 1 weight class above certification after you certify. Example: I can certify at 125 on Dec. 12th. Then in January if I am having a tough time move up to 130 without breaking certification. The rule states that half of your matches must be at the certified weight if you want to wrestle that weight at regionals. If a wrestler makes his certified weight on or before Jan. 15 that counts. You don't have to set a date that everyone certifies on. You just have to declare and make your certified weight on or before the 15th. The question I have is if you move up a weight say from 125 to 130 do you get to weigh 132 (do you earn the 2 pound growth allowance)

Thanks for the replies, it sounds like most people agree that you can make weight at one weight class above your certified weight without breaking certification as long as you make weight at the lower weight at least half of the time. As for the two pound allowance, I don't see why you wouldn't get it at the higher weight!

I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure you don't get the two pounds at the higher weight if you move up. I think you can only pick one weight to certify at.

152 becomes 154 no matter where you certified at. If you certify at 145 you may weigh in at 154 after certification as long as you do not wrestle 160 (now 162) and as long as 1/2 of your competitions are at 145(147) assuming you intend to wrestle that weight for regionals. Hope this helps.
