I went threw really quickly and broke down the way each regional compared as to number in the finals.
Beloit Regional has the most at 13 Follwed by Oberlin with nine Wellsville had the remaining six and the south region had 0 in the finals
That is just championship finals we will see what happens later today to see how the rest of the 3-6 place matches end up and how many each regional ends up with.

That seems to be the way it always is, I don't think it is good for our sport. If there is supposed to be the best kids at the state tournament it is NOT getting done. Who even won that regional and how did they end up??? The Beloit and the western regional are always on top and every year several good kids stay home. I just believe we should try to get the best kids there and it's not happening!!!!!! Nothing against anyones team but it's the state tournament and best are supposed to be there not kids with a 9-14 record(just and example) Sure wish they would consider four qualifying tournaments instead of calling them regionals and send some eastern kansas schools out west and western kansas schools out east.

Non-geographic Regionals are never going to happen. That's pretty much a given. How would you decide who gets shifted? What would be the criteria? We can't even decide on seeding criteria in tournaments, do you really think we could come up with something that could fairly send Frontenac to Hoxie for Regionals? Transportation costs, etc. are always going to prevent that kind of thing. It's unfortunate that there is that kind of imbalance, but there is little that can be done about it right now.

i checked out the numbers after the tournament and this is what I came up with. Beloit and Oberlin Regional had 26 placers each. The Wellsville Regional had 24 and the Garden Plain Regional had 8 placers.
In no bracket did all four from any given regional place in the top six. Wellsville, Oberlin and Beloit each had only one bracket where no one from the regional placed.
The Beloit regional had eight brackets with multiple placers, the Oberlin regional had ten brackets with multiple placers, the wellsville regional had nine brackets with multiple placers and the Garden Plain Regional had one.

What makes this discussion so colorful is the absolute regional bias of those penning their opinions...of which you will never overcome. Regional qualification is the only way to ensure equity to the wrestlers from around the state. Perusal of many of the other messages on this site indicates several past state placers being 'upset' by some of these 'unqualified' wrestlers. That may indicate that the current regional system is correct or at least the best answer. Does the current system put the best 16 on the mat? Probably not, however it more than likely does provide the top 6. Does this mean that a 3A school who wrestles predominantly 5A and 4A schools shouldn't be afforded the opportunity to compete with other 3A schools in their geographical vicinity? Or do we send a team from NW Kansas across the state to ensure that their 'better wrestlers' have a better chance to participate as a state contestant?
Also realize that what you apply to wrestling you then apply to every other academic and athletic endeavor for state competition.
