I happened to notice the KWCA hall of fame up at Hays (Gross Memorial) and noticed the following:

Coaches: Gordon Matson - Maybe Oberlin (Buzz)
Bill Pickenpaugh - Possibly Hoxie
Jake Durham - Likely Norton
Gus Garcia - I think Atwood

Athletes: Roy Oeser - Kapaun ?
Doug Duell - Goodland ?

I would like to offer the following nominations that should and likely will be there some day"

Coaches: Larry Gabel - St. Francis
Coach Jenkins - St. Francis
Kirk Baker - Hoxie
Coach Flores - Leoti and points East

Athletes: Bill Gabel

Officials: Brice Roderick

VIP's: Ben Duell & KLOE Radio Personnel for Outstanding matside wrestling covereage

Fort Hays Personnel/Tournament Directors: Best Damned Hospitallity room in Kansas

Any comments/additions/deletions?

To be inducted into the Ks. Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame, which is currently housed on the campus of FHSU in Gross Memorial Coliseum.

Individuals should be nominated to the KWCA Executive Board in care of Doug Broadfoot-Hesston High School. The nomination should include some background information and accomplishments of the person.

The Executive Board then votes.
Hall of Fame inductees are honored each year at the KWCA Clinic in Salina usually in early Nov.

I would encourage everyone around the state to help us determine who deserves to be in the Hall of fame. The categories are: Coach, Athlete, Contributor, or Official.

One day Scott Coleman has to be in there, seeing as he was a three-timer and a national champ (who is now wrestling heavyweight at Iowa State). He wrestled 171 from 1995-98 in Manhattan.

Also, Matt Cox from Manhattan should get serious consideration.

Johnson already is in there as an athlete, after winning a national title at FHSU.
