4a used to be the toughtest but now 5a is the toughtest class in wresting, if you take the state champions from all the classes and have a dual tourney 5a would easily win, 4a might have alot of people with good records but the state champion is all that matters, if there was a dual tourney I don't even think 4a would be 2nd I would probably be 6a. No one in 4a can beat tanner gardner, devin schwarts, luke metzler, doug hoover, dugan, vogel, VC 171 reimean, flentrope, seiler or kevin pullium

The top three placers in all the classes are tough, and every year you can make a case on who is tougher. It's the rest of the bracket that makes 4A tougher. 6A and 5A is no problem making it to State & some of the lower placers wouldn't even make it to State in 4A. There are kids that don't make it to 4A State that would place in 6A or 5A. But the top three in each class, I feel changes every year, on who would beat who?

I always think its funny when people talk about how easy it is to qualify for state in 5 and 6a since there are only 32 schools in each class instead of 64 in 4 and 321a. You hear about all the kids who qualify for state that have losing records, who cares, how many of the kids with losing records get the snot kicked out of 'em in the first round? Most of them. How many make it to wrestle on Saturday? VERY few if any. If someone had the time, compare the win/loss records of all the weights in each class and quit talking about how easy it is to qualify, that is not the fault of any of the wrestlers or a sign of the strength in their class. All that shows is that there are more schools and more wrestlers in 321 and 4a.

Do you know how to tell the toughest weight class?

It's the one you wrestle in.

I think it is interesting that the highest placers at the High School Nationals were from 5A and 6A. Schwartz and Vogel took 3rd, Carroll took 4th, Seiler placed 5th, and so on. It seems like 5A and 6A are pretty tough to me.
