I was reading topics on Intermat today and read a short article about a wrestler and his parents, from Ohio, who have filed a lawsuit against his wrestling coach and the school because of weight loss practices. It is a subject that has come up before on this forum and it will be interesting to see what the findings are. If the courts rule in favor of the wrestler, then there is going to have to be some serious consideration in the future for all other wrestlers, coaches, and administrations about weight loss practices. If the courts rule in his favor, they could just as easily rule in favor of any other wrestler from any other state on this.

I disagree with you in the respect that we all as coaches are going to have to make some changes. As long as a coach is not requiring his wrestlers to cut weight, then there really is no problem. I read the article which you speak of and it seems as the coach was clearly in the wrong with what he asked his wrestler to do. I would like to hear his side of the story, but I can assure you that I would never ask my kids to do what he appearantly asked his wrestler to do. I have taken a policy that if my wrestlers wish to cut weight, they need to do it right, and on their own time. My job is to make them better wrestlers. Times and the sport have changed.

Suing a coach of cutting weight is B.S. A coach can recommend a wrestler to cut weight but he cant force him to. Ultimately, it is up to the wrestler. If a wrestler wants to eat steak and cake with a side of cisco, his coach can't stop him.

Whats wrong with the kid. If his coach told him he had to jump off a bridge to wrestle varsity, id put my money on the kid jumping to his doom. Maybe someone ought to sue the kids parents for raising their kid to be submissive dumb$h!t
