My freshman year, I wrestled at 215# (but I weighted probably 210 or 205) and we had a first-year wrestler wrestling at 189. We had a dual with West Elk, and before it started, my coach went up to me and said "Nathan, I'm bumping you up to heavyweight and Levi to 215." So, that's fine, I thought. Little did I know that West Elk's HWT, Rodger Kraft, finished his carrer as a 4-time state qualifier and 3-time state placer. We went out, the match started, he shot on me, I sprawled, and he FREAKIN' lifted me into the air so effortlessly, my arms were flailing, I looked so pathetic. He then set me down on my back and pinned me. This ordeal took 9 seconds and set their high school record for fastest pin (where it stood up until last year). He also has the WEHS records for: most career wins, most career pins, most wins in a season, and most pins in a season.

We used to have a heavyweight with a rather hairy belly and he would squish up his belly button and it would look like a certain part of the female anatomy. It was rather disgusting.

We had a heavy who must of thought he need to practice wrestling quicker guys so most of the year he worked out with our 98lber, this 98lber was a 2 time state champ and the matches were closer than you might think. Just to show how easy heavy used to be this guy placed in the top four at state one year.

While this is actually a football story, it involves former Hat Town heavy and state placer MayD Ayes...

Apparently, one day when changing for practice, MayD lifted up his huge gut and out popped a dead bug. (I believe it was a cricket.) Now THAT, my friends, is a saggy belly.

I just thought of another funny John Paul Shepherd moment. One day half the team tackled him and lifted his shirt and proceeded to give him a pink belly (I mean that belly was raw!) Well John gets loose and starts walking with this death look at a freshman...the freshman is cringing as JP reaches for a permanent marker and draws a donut on his own belly and says mmmmmm, donuts! Everybody then beat him up again for being wierd!
