As the 5A rankings coordinator, I only updated the website when a new rankings comes out every couple of weeks. Crazy Coach Lamaar keeps the 321A rankings updated only every second of the day. As far as the rankings goes, I can only speak from my experience, but I would bet the other raters are having the same problems. I do not recieve very much infomaition from coaches or tournament directors. I have yet to have any brackets from other tournaments involving 5A schools faxed to me. Only a handful of coaches send in information. Some coaches simply don't value the rankings or don't care about the rankings, and there is nothing wrong with that. Some coaches don't want to let out some "secret" information so they purposefly don't say anything. When we go to seeding meetings as coaches, rankings never come up. It does make publication of a tournament our dual more interesing, ie...# of ranked wrestlers/teams at XYZ tourney. However, everyone is right, the rankings don't mean anything when you step on the mat. I try to be as accurate as possible, but if I were 100% right about the rankings, then why would we even bother wrestling or competing? You want to be ranked, beat somebody. Beat someone ranked, it doesn't matter if they are 5A, 4A, 6A, or 321A, just beat them. Then get me the information, either through your coach or e-mail me. I have a list wrestlers to watch and at what weights I think they are at. Until I hear something, I will not make changes because I don't want to assume anything. When you assume you make a you know what out of you and me. This website with the results posted is really handy. I try real hard to look at papers , but the coverage of wrestling in the state Kansas isn't the best statewide. I know that wrestling in Salina gets put in the briefly section while basketball gets a pre and post game story. The results put in the paper for our team, are most often reported by me. Lastly, if you want to be ranked be the best you possibly can be. Win as many matches and tournaments you can, take on the best competition, work hard in practice, and ultimately if you don't get ranked and yet place in the state tournamet, you can say "see, I told you." If you think the rankings are easy to do, then I challenge you to do a better job. I know each rankings coordinator does an excellent job, no matter how right or wrong they are. If you have information that could help our cause, let us know. Until then, wrestle hard. Thanks for the concern and keep wrking hard.
