From what I undedrstand the rationale behind the rule is that if HS wrestling coaches are aloud to work with their athletes and heaven forbid take them to FS/ GR tournaments, then that would cause baseball and track to lose athletes.
I think "they" are trying to prevent sports from competing for athletes. It goes along with the same rule that is being questioned now by the state legislature about kids playing a club sport at the same time as the school sport. For example right now a kid can not swim for a club and also swim for their school. but again in Western Kansas in our league we have a six week MS program if their is a club tournament that does not conflict with our schedule I would enourage my athletes to go, shoot I'd like to go with them and coach them if we did not have a school tournament that day etc... except that I would be drawn and quartered by KSHSAA, and the kid would be ineligible to competed the rest of his life. Oklahoma has none of these types of rules, in fact they (OSAA) have no rules at all regarding Freestyle and Greco competition, and they do relatively well in wrestling.
