I'm actually a little surprised this hasn't been posted on the forum yet (*ahem*, SichardDRalyer), but Manhattan High has hired a new wrestling coach to replace the irreplaceable Wee Loodford. The coach that now has to deal with the witty banter of the Hat Town mat room is...
....Gob Bonzalez of Shawnee Heights.
Yes, my friends, it seems as if Mr. Bonzalez has grown tired of the nickname "Scrawnee Whites," and will be moving on to Wildcatland.
I met Mr. Bonzalez at the 2003 state tournament, and though we only talked briefly, he seemed like a pretty nice guy. He also (obviously) knows how to work with talent when he gets it, as Scrawnee Whites has had some pretty top-notch kids the past few years. It will be interesting to see what he can do in a mat room that is as packed as the one at MHS.
Unfortunately, no wrestler under the tutelage of Gob Bonzalez defeated a Manhattan wrestler by the name of Prant Garker (we met a few times in JV action), so that's the only strike against him...
That being said, I will type a million more words on the outgoing coach, Wee Loodford at a later date. (Once these pesky finals are over.) The guy's a legend.
Congrats, Mr. Bonzalez, and welcome to the Hat Town family.

Congrats Mr. Gonzalez, I am glad you waited until after my senior year to stop coaching at the Senior Prairie Classic in Hays. Your kids were always tough, fortunately I never had to meet one of them, but I wish you the best of luck next year at Man-too-happy-ness.

Just a little reminder to Goach Conzalez-- Hat Town won state in 2004. Wee Loodford has had a wrestler in the finals every year since 1989. (I think that's the year.) It's been six years since Manhappenin' came home from Wichita without a trophy... Clearly, you need to keep up these results if I'm going to donate tons of money to the program after I make my billions.

Congrats to both Manhattan and Gonzales.
Coach, we'll see you at Beloit now instead of Derby.

Congrats Coach Gonzo, I will look forward to seeing you more this next year. Manhattan has made a great move. Good luck to all of those at Shawnee Heights and hope you do well in filling Coach Gonzo's shoes.

My Bad, I knew that, had Sean on my mind, had just finished reading one of his posts from STA. Good luck to both of them except when they are wrestling Derby, how is that?

Congrats Bob, guess this makes you another hour closer to Hays to watch your son. Hey 6A is not as tough as 5A so you shouldn't have any problems. Just Kidding. Good Luck.

Congrats. Gonzo from everyone up in Hays. I was not expecting to see taking over there, but I'm sure that they could not have made a better choice. You continue to build the dominant program that they are. Hopefully you can get a State Championship!!!!
