I think that is very irresponsible to accuse Cody of mismanaging his weight. Was he cutting alot? Probably. The question that arose during the regional was this. We wrestled two front side matches and one back side round and due to the excessive number of Byes on the only back side round, every class except 135, 152, 160, and 275 began the weigh-in hour immediately following the conclusion of the quarter final matches instead of starting the hour after the consolation round. It was easily an hour or more difference in time allowed to work your weight off. Granted the weigh-in schedule was announced over the speaker however, it was during the quarter final round which meant that the time had already started clicking. Cody was close on weight however, (half a pound) and we all know what we could do with an extra hour. I am not offering excuses nor am I arguing the ruling of tournament officials, (I would have however if he was my wrestler) and I am sure he was represented well by his coaches, but I do want to point out that he should not be labeled "Stupid" or "Inept" in any way as this is a tremendous misfortune of circumstances. Cody is a quality wrestler who in my opinion would have claimed the state title next weekend. I am an opposing coach (Piper)who has a wrestler at that weight that will benefit from this incident however, no one in this sport wants to benefit solely on the misfortune of others. We all work and dream to be the quality of wrestler that Cody is and to get down on him now instead of finding a way to help and support him is an attitude that this wrestling community does not need.
