Purposal on the dual state, I like the idea and thought it would add some excitment to the sport and draw a larger fan base, plus give the kids a chance to compete in something a little different.

I too think dual state would be a wonderful addition to the mix, but as an addition to the schedule and not as a replacement of the existing state meets.

The positive aspects are well documented. But there are downsides too.

Take a look around. How many 1-2-3A schools are currently able to field a full team? And at the Colby Dual Tournament even the larger schools represented had opens in their line-ups. This situation is just going to get worse, if current population trends continue.

With a declining population base in the vast majority of Kansas communities/counties, the deciding factor in crowing the 1-2-3A division state dual meet winner could very easily come down to which school filled the most weight classes in a given year - as opposed to who had the best talent that year. This factor may also one day play a role in the outcome of the individual state tournament team title winner too, although it would likely be to a lesser extent than the dual tournament.

From a population standpoint, we are not quite to that point yet. But very well could be in the next few years. And, in my opinion, that would take away from the glamour of a state dual tournament.

I agree with Les Brown because I wrestle for Southeast of Saline Highschool(123a) and we are an alright team.. not near state competitor yet, but we beat beliot, and they are ranked 4th in the state because they have a lot of talent, and a team like mine wit 12 freshmen we can throw in freshmen wherever we want and get all the opens and win.. like our dual with beliot, talent wise they had us wrapped up, but we came out on top, so there would be a ton of upsets in there

Dual state would be the ultimate. They should at least give it a try.

I agree dual state woulld be a great cahnge to the state format. Last year would have been very interesting in every class but 5a. Bishop Carroll was stacked last year. Plus 6a would have been great with hutch only winning by a point.

The intent of the KWCA's proposal to add a Dual State was never to REPLACE the current individual state tournament, only to add another state competition the following week.

The proposal is still on the table, it was suggested to the KWCA board that they continue to pursue the proposal through administrators association. Several have been contacted, and I personally have done one presentation to a group of administrators from the Frontier League. We are also planning a mailing as well. Not sure what will happen next, but the idea is to garner administrative support, then with both the KWCA AND the administrators group supporting the proposal it would have more strength and hopefully get apporved by the KSHSAA Executive Board.
