Expo Center in Topeka was the last I heard...but that was last year's news...I think they were still trying to keep 5&6A together.

I know 4a didn't waist time and was able to lock up the expocenter in Salina which I think will be a blast...I can go to both days if I'm still in the area.

What? Is this going to happen this year or what? Is the tournament still going to be in the Coliseum or is it splitting for this year?

The 2005 KSHSAA State Wrestling will be held in the same format as in years past, 6A, 5A, and 4A at the Kansas Coliseum and 3-2-1A at Fort Hays State.

KSHSAA executed a one year agreement with the Bi-Centenial Center in Salina for next year for the 4A tournament.

There are several options for the 6A and 5A tournaments. KSHSAA is closely monitoring the Kansas State Legislature regarding the Sedgwick County sales tax issue to be brought to a vote for the voter approved downtown arena in Wichita.

When the arena tax is passed, look for 6A and 5A to stay at the Coliseum while the new arena is built. After construction is completed, look for all three to once again be united in Wichita at the new downtown arena.

That probably won't happen for at least 2 years, it takes a while to build an arena. Topeka won't happen because the shriners convention is the same week. My vote for 5A/6A is Ahearn in Manhattan.

When the new arena is under construction, the Kansas Coliseum in Wichita will still be available.

It is my understanding KSHSAA does not want to split the two unless absolutely necessary and the Coliseum may be their option.

Perhaps I am mistaken, but I do not believe there is an arena in Manhattan with adequate floor space to host the two classes together.

Six to eight full size mats, along with tables, score clocks, etc.!

What? The collesium in Wichita can have them together and Ahearn or Brammledge can't?

I heard the collesium was a disaster last year. With garbage everywhere and discusting bathrooms. They better get their act together this year.

Richard,

I believe that the contract between KSHSAA and the Bicentennial Center will have the 5A state championships in Salina for at least the next two years.

Sorry, that was a mistype on my part. I meant to say that the 4A state championships have been committed to Salina for the next two years (2006 & 2007).

The story behind Member #1: One of the early additions to the Kansas Wrestling website was a basic talk forum. I created the forum using Microsoft FrontPage, but wasn't happy with the options and flexibility of the package. After a couple of years, I did some investigating to find a good alternative. The result of that search was the Ultimate Bulletin Board, which is what we continue to utilize. Since I was unfamiliar at that time with the program, and didn't want to crash the website while trying to set it up, I hired an expert to do the initial installation. That person had to establish himself as a member in order to access the board while doing the installation; thus, he became member #1.

I think Ahearn has enough floor space for 8 mats, I know the Manhattan Kids club has held a tourney there with @ least 6 mats. Also it has seating similar to Hays, with the indoor track underneath the stands, which would provide a great place for wrestlers to warm-up and spread out instead of being cramped like in Wichita.

I am not sure but I don't think Bramlage has enough floor space. I am not sure how many of the bleachers can be moved.

PS: Mr. Church, you never answered, did you attend the J.R. Durham tournament last weekend in Norton, and if so what did you think about the level of competition?

Ahearn does have the floor space, but it has may other things working against it. There is not enough seating, there is no PA system, and while school is in session not enough parking.

Bramlage does not have enough floor space. They built that thing for "B Word" only!
