What's everyone doing for pre-wrestling season this fall? I know quite a few are proabably doing football, but does anyone have any other conditioning tips?

Like Jordon Best said, "lift, run, and wrestle", but you also need to do some research on diet. find out what the eleite wrestlers are doing and follow that.

Join x-country, there is really no way better to get in shape. Everyone on any school's x-c team will dedicate themselves to running hard and they will push u beyond what u think u can achieve. The practices will rape u but get u in tip top shape.

x-country does help i went out for it my senior year instead of football, you can tell the difference between x-country shape and football shape. XC is the better one

I would have to disagree. X-Country is a sport that involves longs amounts of daily running. I am not saying that is bad for you, but it does not train your body for the high explosive movements needed for wrestling. There are two types of muscle fibers.

Slow twitch muscle fibers wich are trained by longer sessions such as rowing, swimming, distance running, and bicycling. Then there are

Fast twitch muscle fibers wich are trained in short bursts such as - sprints, plyometrics, and etc.

How you train your muscles is how they preform.

But cross country will condition your lungs and help get your respiratory system back into full gear. Always a plus not having to gasp for air only a minute into a match.

Id rather be able to go the distance and still have my breathe than be the explosive gasser type.

Once you crap out...the explosiveness will wear out by 3rd period.

But its best to have a combination of power workouts and long distance to be an all around wrestler.

A combination is best, unfortunately, there is no sport in the fall that combines this. There is the explosive sport of football and the conditioning sport of XC. I was always in good enough shape from wrestling by the time meets started that my long term conditioning was up to where it needed to be, and my explosiveness was already up from football. So really if you want the perfect wrestling exercise, play football and run a few miles a few days a week, or do XC and get some sprints in there every once in a while

I broke my toe at state... but I still got a better medal than Lancerm.

There's always soccer.

I played all throughout high school and it was a great way to build up to the wrestling season. Somewhere during the years I played soccer, a coach told me that in an average game, a player can run as much as 5 miles worth on the field. And a majority of that will be the short explosive sprints. Plus (believe it or not), soccer is a pretty physical and competitive game. Don't believe me? You should have seen Wichita Heights, Shawnee Mission West, and St. Thomas Aquinas last year. There were some big boys on their teams and a lot of them had hitting power that would make some football coaches' mouths water.

Also, it can be a fun game. You get some good exercise and conditioning in while at the same time having fun.

yeah, but u have to be good at soccer to get any playing time. same with football. if your not any good, then u dont get the playing time. In cross country, everyone gets their chance to compete and that is better thatn just excersising. you are more likeley to compete, then you are more likeley to give your all during practices and if your on the bench then your more likeley to to slack off and not try in practice.

another point i forgot before is that cross country is much like wrestling an individual sport. in both, your going for your individual perfection and if u do good then the team does good but its mainley an individual sport. in both soccer and football you have to rely on other people. cross country will get u into the right mind set as wrestling, an individual sport that if u take care of yourself, the rest will happen for the team, but football and soccer u can have the game of your life and if your whole team isnt on the same page, u still loose. take that into concideration

I think I'll stay with XC, soccer is only for boys in the fall anyway, and football according to my parents "is way to dangerous for a teenage girl, even if she does wrestle". Thanks for the help guys.

XC is the **** for 3 reasons.

1. chicks and dudes practice at the same time, and girls work out in skimpy clothes.

2. there's nothing better than getting kicked out of the mall 3-4 times a season because you decide the air-conditioned mall is the best place for practice.

3. girls work out in skimpy clothes.

I might add that Matt Field who wrestled for North Cedar High School in Iowa last year choose Cross Country over football his senior year. I might also add that Matt Field's is also one of the top recruited freshman this year in Divison I wrestling. With Mocco's departure to the dirty Cowboys, Field's could start as a true freshman at the University of Iowa. Oh yeah, if you haven't figured out yet, Field's is a heavy weight and a beast of a man that i might add. Which is usually the ideal figure of a football player and not a XC runner and I grantee he would have been one of the most dominate defensive lineman in the state of iowa. So why did he choose XC over football?

ENJOY!!!

It also could have been because he didn't want to get hurt in a fluke accident...

Well he made it through football his sophomore and junior year with a state chapionship, second place finish, 2002 FILA Cadet Nationals title and 2003 Junior Nationals title.

I would like to meet this guy that can break his leg but i am sure that injury possiblity had something to do with his decision.

ENJOY!!!
