It's been a while since I have been on the forum, but I was wondering if anything ever became of changing locations for the Class 4A,5A,6A state tournament? I know there were talks of moving it from Wichita. Did they resign a deal with Wichita or are they looking elsewhere? If this information is on an earlier post I apologize, like I said I haven't been on the forum for a while.

Sorry,

The state tournaments are staying where they are at least for another year. Nobody wanted to move the 321A tournament becuase Hays is nice. Noone wants to go back to Wichita but for some reason the big wigs at KSHSAA just keep sending it right back there every year.

No im sorry let me rephrase that. Noone except the teams from Wichita want the state tournament there. Personally I would rather see it in Topeka cuase the Expocenter is way nicer, although not as big. But sportfan if you don't believe me lets have a poll. even though its already been done. So everybody go back to the main KWCA page and vote on the poll

I, for one, thoroughly enjoy the state tournament in Wichita. And I assure all of you who want it changed, there are many of us who do.

It's just we don't complain as much.

id rather have it in wichita cause it wont really seem like state cause its been there so long and if we go to topeka then it will seem like kids state and i think kids state sucks.

Okay, I didn't want to start the debate again as to where would be the best location, because that has already been argued enough. I just knew that the KSHSAA was considering looking for another location, and I wanted to know what decision they made. It was said that it will be in Wichita again next year, so this discussion doesn't need to go any farther. Unless Nigel wants to try to bash on Prant some more.

My major question at this point is what difference does it make WHERE State is? It's the State tournament for crying out loud!

In my four years in Immaculata we had the 500-mile round trip every year to go to Hays. Didn't matter to me or my kids, it's the State tournament. We were just excited to go. If it were being held in Leavenworth or Elkhart it wouldn't matter.

Kansas has a disadvantage a lot of other states don't have. Colorado has the Pepsi Center in Denver, Iowa has Vets Auditorium in Des Moines, Missouri has the Hearns Center. What do these three venues have in common? They are all large (15,000 seats or better) facilities that are fan and wrestling friendly, located in pretty much the dead center of the state. We don't have that in Kansas, thus the constant discussion.

What we do have are two nice medium-sized arenas. The Expocenter is a great facility and so is the arena in Wichita. Both are adequate for the event and both cities have plenty of hotel space to accommidate everyone. Which ever one is picked, what matters is not the area code, it's what's on the mat.

At the risk of having my post deleted anyways, I don't care if you went to the state tournament just to watch it, big deal. If you wrestled half as well as you run your mouth (or type on your keyboard, since you like to point out the obvious) , you probably would have been wrestling in the tournament instead of watching from the stands.

Nigel, chill. I was talking about the wrestlers I had qualify for State as a coach, not watching it.

As for PennyWise's original question, from the information I received, KSHSAA wanted to move the tournament to Topeka for 2004 (and Topeka wanted it), but there was a scheduling conflict at the Expocenter (Shrine Circus, I think) prevented that. If they can get that worked out for 2005, look for it to get moved then.

Eeeeek. Methinks Nigel has begun to take the forum a liiiiiiiiiiittle too seriously.

I agree with Tkdwn42 on the whole "it matters what's on the mat" thing. As long as 4/5/6A stay together, I'll be fine. Whether or not I've only been there once to wrestle, I still think that the parade of champions was the coolest thing I've done in wrestling. I think Wichita makes the most sense, seeing as how it's in the middle...but that's just my .02, I could be wrong.

That last post was not directed at you tkdnwn. In any case what happens on that mat is all thats important, I agree with that. But for the amount of money that KSHSAA pays them ($40,000 for both days I beleive is what Rick Bowden told me, I'd have to check my email for that) to use the building they should be doing a lot better job than they are now.
