Kansas Wrestling Forums General Discussion High School Cold weather is hurting practice

School district 259 follows the rule no school no practice and just coming off x-mas break with another week of school being shut down because of weather is my guess making theese kids FAT. Is it affecting the rest of the state? This could hurt getting ready for Newton!!

It definitely has an effect on the ability to be ready to compete at your best, also it has coincided with a lot of kids getting some illnesses too.

I can tell you it really effected us in Hays. We only were able to practice 1 day last week, which was Thursday and we went to Liberal on Friday. USD 489 has the policy of no school no practice, we had to receive special permission from our Superintendent to even practice then, our conditioning was really hurting this weekend.

I know mat practice is different than other forms of conditioning, but couldn't some people do some pushups and situps while watching tv or something. Get in your stance and mirror/shadow wrestle, these kids can take it upon themselves to stay in shape regardless of the weather outside. If you always need your coach to nag you into shape, then you've been weaned too long.

Shoot who owns a TV. Pushups and situps etc, is what we do after practice.
