When are these teams selected? And when are the wrestlers notified?

The team has been selected, the wrestlers have been notified (at least the coaches of those wrestlers) and it should be in the paper on Saturday

I would like to state that the selection at 215, Jordan Bedore is only a junior not a senior as the Journal had posted in the paper. Congrats to all of the selections on all the teams for a great year. And good luck to any of the outgoing seniors.

i'd like to know how hille beat taplin out at 152...what was the criteria? i mean hill has 3 losses while taplin has 1? did hille beat sharpe from colby earlier in the year whom taplin had his only loss too? i mean taplin lost 1 match and stuck like 25 or more kids this year...i'd like to know how you picked 152 please..thanks

125 pounds - Annon deserves first team. I disagree with second team choice. Spillman had three losses on the year - all to Annon - and a win over Close in the finals at the Beloit tournament and defeated everyone on the honorable mention list this year too.

Usually there is a yearly debate about the Journal's choices. It's probably best to remember they do their best, but they also are trying to sell papers. At 152 pounds the two dominate wrestlers were Taplin and Pietrzyk - more so than Hille or Ibarra (the 4 state champs at 152). Both Taplin and Pietrzyk lost only one time at 152. But both are sophomores and have a few more years for the recognition. At 152 it would be close but Taplin probably should have been the top choice and Pietrzyk the 2nd team. But 152 was a tough weight to choose out of this year.

The selection process for the wrestlers and the coach of the year is indeed difficult, but some of these choices are no brainers. I have to believe that there is not much thought or time given to this, hopefully in the future, with a little input, more thought will be given to this.Does anyone know how many people sit down and figure all this out and how long it takes them. Age should not have a negative bearing on the choice if it is a younger wrestler. If the wrestler deserves it he should get it. I do think that the Abeline coach should have been the coach of the year. THis is why, he took a team that was not considered to win state let alone be ranked number one like Hoxie was all year. No disrespect to Mr. Baker, he is an awsome coach, year in and year out. I just think it is outstanding when someone does something that not very many people thought they could. When you are expected to win and do, then that is definitley good but when you are not expected to win and do, thats outstanding. Thanks.

True, but Hoxie's breaking the state record for team points in a state tournament and number of state medal winners would make a pretty strong arguement for Baker too.

Well you can't give coach Baker the award every year now can you! Coach Baker is awsome and everyoen from Hoxie shoudl be proud of what he has done there. But Coach Christner deserves an award like this after Abilene captures the state crown when they weren't even supposed to. As for Ross its hard to beleive they would select someone over him, but hey hes only a sophmore and its just a recognition. Im sure he is more happy with 2 state championships then someone's opinion

Please refrain from using big words you don't know how to spell.
I have a question-- how is Goodland on the Salina all-area team? Wouldn't Junction City, Manhattan, and Topeka all be closer than Goodland? Or is it just that the Salina Journal has circulation in Goodland?
'Tis a puzzlement.
And congrats to everyone who made the team.
