What teams will be at the Derby Invitational this year?

Add Derby, to the Tournaments that Wichita West has been banned from.

Is Charles Knox wrestling this year?

I heard that he quit but that is just hearsay, I would hate to see that be true because he is very talented and spent a lot of time in the practice room.

emporia is not going to derby they dropped the tournament last year

I know of eight Tournaments they are not allowed in.

Craig and Nelson will not be there, as Hutch and Emporia do not go to the tournament

I must admit I'm not familure with Wichita wrestling. Why is it that this school is banned from some tournaments?

Wichita West has been kicked out of three tournaments that I know about (Derby, Rose Hill, and Putnam City North.) It has been two years since they have been kicked out of one. Where does JT come up with eight? JT if you have any credibility, which I say you don't, list the tournaments that they have been kicked out of. One thing that is clear is whenever JT has the chance to throw in a negative word about the West program, he does. I think you would have a hard time finding anyone who could say anything bad about the West team last year or this year. So, JT how long are you going to keep badmouthing them? Most of the kids and coaches wrestling for them now had nothing to do with any of the problems they had before, so maybe its time for you to keep your dislike to yourself. It's obvious that anything West does will never satisfy you.

I never said that the current kids or Coaching staff did anything wrong.
The question was asked why were they kicked out. If you had been around the Wichita West Wrestling team before the last two years you wouldn't have to ask that. The only other time I commented on Wichita West was to answer a question on whether the Wrestling Coach had moved to W. Northwest? I told them no he went somewhere else, it was the Football Coach that went to W. Northwest.

I don't know Coach Watkins but I would guess he got tired of the hassle and needed a new start. I do know Coach Dryden, although I won't see him until State, I would bet they are concentrating on wrestling more now instead of the us against everyone attitude.

I never said they were kicked out of eight Tournaments, I said “I know of eight Tournaments they are not allowed in.” Hopefully this will change, it won't be overnight but it can be done. This is kind of like College were the kids and Coaches of today get penalized for wrong doings of the past.

So what did they do? Just general bad behavior and poor sportsmanship or was it more serious.

So what will be the toughest weights and who will make those weights tough.

It was just poor sportsmanship from SOME of the kids, SOME of the Coaches and A LOT of their fans. Some Athletic Directors and/or Principals felt it was getting out of hand. Hopefully everything is OK now; they have a lot of good wrestlers still in the program.

As for which weight is tough who knows?

With all the changes this year I don’t know for sure who will be there. I used to love this Tournament because it was so tough but now I don’t know?

In our first Tournament this year we had five fewer teams & in our second one there were five new ones. With a lot of budget cuts going on I’m not sure who will be at Derby or at Rose Hill for that matter. I’m going to check and see who is going to Rose Hill later this year, if anyone knows for sure who will be at Derby could you let us know? Thanks.
