How about Ehert upsetting upsetting Butler in the 6a 189 lb finals. I didn't see that comming, but I think it is awesome. Also, Tyler Gonzales bringing home the 5a 189 title gives the Centennial league half of the states 189 lb champions.

Also, Shane Reedy finally stepping up and wrestling to his capabilities (3rd in 5a 160).

Hey dont forget about the Owings-Madden match, and Weatherbee-Younkin ..those were the 2 most surprising matches in 3-2-1a in my mind.

Sullivan from Goddard absolutely destroying Chaz Hill in the semifinals was pretty surprising.

Cody Hazard pinning Lance Roe was the most surprising match for me.

Chaz had a great season, winning 39 matches with 33 pins but he obviously didn't step on the mat mentally prepared for that semi-final match. He made a couple of mistakes early and Sullivan capitalized on them. Things kind of snowballed after that but that's what state's all about. You have to come out ready every match. Sullivan did and that's why he's a state champion! I was proud of Chaz getting his head screwed back on and coming back to take third, including avenging a regional loss to Halpin. He'll be back next year for another shot. Also, congratulations to Studie Red Corn on his 4th place finish. He has worked hard all year and had a great tournament. Randy Hill

I expected Chaz to place high, that was a given to me. But seeing the brackets and looking at Studie taking 4th made my day. That kid had a tough as nails weight class and wasnt ranked all year. He really stepped it up at state and beat all the kids he needed to. Congrats Studie, u really earned it buddy.

Yeah, Sullivan really showed at state. It's obvious that he's put a lot more into this year. Not like he's been bad ever, but seemed like he had a lot of heart at state. His mentality from the beginning I think did help during semis. I congratulate him for placing 1st after just qualifying freshman year. What a way to end your senior year.

You know what is crazy... Tim Sayers, last year's 6A 103 state champ, didn't even place this year! He must have had one eeeeaaasssyyy bracket last year and a tough one this year, cuz that just doesn't make sense! Can someone tell me what happened there!?

Tim Sayers had a relatively easy side of the bracket compared to the other side, w/ the only real contenders on his side being Shumate and Bingham. Bingham is by no means a fish and he pinned him in .41 seconds....

He had Brady Huck in the finals who is a fine wrestler himself and actually pinned him in the 3rd period w/ the score tied or extremely close. Id contribute some of Sayers success to being a big 103lber. Moving up to 112 probably took away a strength advantage. 103 was by no means weak last yr and was even stronger if u ask me this yr.

The thing that prevented Sayers from being even a state placer was having 4 other state finalists in his bracket. W/ odds like that plenty of cats did worse. 2x state champ, Heinecker, took 4th, state finalist, Woodford, took 3rd, etc....
