Kansas Wrestling Forums General Discussion High School Playoff Football Question

How is it determined who goes where in the 2nd round of the football playoffs for Kansas? I noticed that a majority of the next games look like they will be hosted by the team more likely to lose this round except for maybe Holton, which I think should cruise again.

Yes! Let's talk about football. Do any of you western 6A guys have good teams because so far we (Olathe East) have been tearing up everybody around us?

The first round in the smaller classes is decided by winner of the district, after that they have a formula for which team is the further east or west depending on which it is they have in that round. And by the looks of it the team further west will host 2nd round games, then 3rd round will be hosted by the eastern most team.

Yes, Olathe East HAS been dominating every team around them.....because they play in the East. Who do you have to contend with? Leavenworth? Mighty Olathe South? Oooh, no, you have 4-5 Free State and the ever-tough Blue Valley and Shawnee Mission teams, too, I forgot. 9-0 and worthy of some praise, yes. But best team in the state? I think not.

And yes, I know the East has had the state champs for the past umpteen years (I know from personal experience, actually...), but it is indisputable that the Western half of the state is more consistently talented.

And Salina Central would MURDER you guys...and so will Hutch/The Derb/Manhattan/Maize, assuming Olathe North doesn't knock you out in the second round.

(I kid because I love, ABartels. I kid because I love. *but not man-crush style, of course*)

mr. gaither, i hope we beat derby tomorrow, but it doesnt look to good because i talked to o'dell bell today and he said he didnt think he could play because he messed up his knee. and i doubt anyone beats hutch (9-0)

When will football season be over so we can start wrestling season? In Eureka our football season ended after our first game.

Jim isn't exactly right about the east-west thing. The first round is indeed hosted by a district champion and plays a runner-up in the first round. If a runner-up beats a champion in the first round they are guaranteed the next playoff game unless it is between two runner-ups. This format was introduced last year... again simply stated if a team that has not gotten to host a game is playing a team that has, they are going to get to host it. Case in point Silver Lake was a runner-up to Rossville and beat District Champ St Marys so they host ACCHS. If St Marys would have won ACCHS would have been the host. It does revert to the alternating east-west method after all teams have gotten to host a game.
