Mr. Phippen, I just wish I was a champion of something other than the Lawrence South 8/9 tournament.

We can talk about Grand State all we want, but I agree with the coaches and think a dual state would be WAY cooler. (Mainly because I would get to participate.) This is because Manhattan is the best dual team in the history of the world. For real. The world. We would beat a team made up of the Superfriends, Rocky, the Thundercats, Captain Planet, Rambo and Denver the Last Dinosaur.

HOLY CRAP! Denver, the Last Dinosaur?! I FREAKIN' REMEMBER THAT SHOW!!! Now I got the theme stuck in my head; I hate you... :p

I do agree that a dual state would be cool. Especially if it was a GRAND Dual state...

But can you guys be beat the A Team? Don't even talk to me until you can.

I remember in 8th grade we used to call our heavyweight "Denver the last dinosaur" ... came from the fact that he was really big and not too bright. Like the dinosaurs, he had the large body with the brain the size of a pea. Man, that boy didn't like it when us fleas called him "Denver" - too bad he could never catch us in order to get us back!

Garker, you named some formidable foes, but until you defeat the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a dual, you are nothing.

Pups4ever, you and wrestler kid just exposed a generation gap on this very forum.

You see, as an almost-20-year-old, to watch Power Rangers in elementary school meant that you were either a huge loser, or a wee little kid. TMNT was awesome, and Power Rangers was just a fake TMNT with more robots, poor acting, and stupid toys. So I'm guessing you were either an '04 graduate, or you didn't have many friends in elementary school.

Now I pose another question: If you're the coach of the Captain Planet team in a dual, do you throw Heart out there, or do you just leave the weight open? Obviously you keep him on the team because he has a pet monkey, but do you shatter the kid's confidence by sending him out there to use "feelings" to win the match, or do you sit him and hope that one day he comes around and grows a pair?

LMAO @ Captain Planet thing. It depends on who he would wrestle. Sometimes, it can hurt a kid's confidence to go out there and just get whipped by an obviously better wrestler. I would send him mostly to JV meets.

No, I am 20 years old, 2003 graduate. Power Rangers was pretty popular at my grade school when I was in 3rd and 4th grade. My friends always watched it and talked about it. I even woke up at like 6:00 in the morning every day just to watch the episode before it aired after school. It must have been different in Hat Town.

The problem with Kapun was on going through the 70's and 80's. What I said was they had been "rebuked", not sanctioned, not placed on probation, not made to forfeit games. They took a shot across their bow from the KSHSAA in the late 70's which put a stop to much of that sort of behavior on their part, obviously not all of it if their football team finally got slapped in the mid 80's.

Many who cry for the return of Grand State are not old enough to remember the years that we had it. It is easy to romanticize the meet, but for those of us who participated in it it meant: another week of practice after a long season already, another weighin, and a long road trip to Hays.

It too, was a hard meet to get up for. For many, their childhood dreams had been fulfilled the week before and they just wanted to stand in the sunshine for awhile. Richard, jse, LancerM, Aaron, until you have walked in those shoes it hard to accuse those who felt that way of "not being true competitors".

Another week of practice,another weighin,another road trip with teammates,to get together with other friends and competetors from around the state,with the opportunity to do battle with the best of the best.Hard to get up for?I don't get it.Maybe there should be nomore weighins,nomore scores kept,nomore roadtrips keep it among your school.Everyone gets their hand raised,heck we'll all stand in the sunshine.I do'nt think so.Loosing sucks,sucks bad,anywhere anytime.Thats what makes winning sooo sweet.How about the kid who dreamed of placing at regionals and makes it,time to start worring about that being deminished at state?Probably time to start dreaming bigger

The KSHSAA does not, and has never issued "rebukes". There were complaints regarding recruiting made to KSHSAA, and during the investigation(s) (there were more than one) no allegation was proved. Had there been evidence of recruiting, in any sport, you can rest assured KSHSAA would have sanctioned Kapaun-Mt. Carmel.

Secondly, Kapaun Mt. Carmel won State Wrestling titles in their respective classifications in 1975 (3A), 1977 (3A), 1981, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1987 all in 5A. If there was "a shot across their bow from the KSHSAA in the late 70's", the shot was unsuccessful.

I do not wish you to think I am picking on you, however I do not believe your statements regarding "recruiting" should go unanswered.

Were Grand State to have continued into the 80's, Kapaun would have been very competitive.

Prant, I must agree with Pups4Ever on this one, Power Rangers was in our time. I know that in 2nd and 3rd grade it was at it's peak. I know this, because me and my cousin used to watch it. Sadly, he's a huge nerd now, so it's hard for me to admit this. However, TMNT was at least 103,299,375,391 1/5 times better than Power Rangers.

Kapaun would have won grand state 85 and 86. They had 6-7 finalists both years and maybe 1981. I think 83 and 84 that Beloit would have been tough to beat.
I know nothing about the Power Rangers. I would have been beaten up for even trying to watch them when I grew up.

Of course they were cool in YOUR generation, Jhris. That's where the gap is. I don't think you guys were even around for slap bracelets. They were banned before your time.
